I LOVE MY PRE!!!

Picked it up at 8am this morning. Out of the box and using it for a few hours now, all I can say is WOW!!! Quite a few reviews have been WAY off base. It is not at all a "cheap" feel...The slider is GREAT...Keyboard is small, but a non-issue and works fine...Screen is AWESOME.

Palm has a hit a home run. I will try to post a review when phonescoop allows us to.

I agree. So far I really like the form of and it and I haven't even begun to check out all the features. I think it seems well made and the keyboard seems pretty good, a little smaller than my Curve but I think I will get used to it.

I am just hoping Sprint coverage will be on par w/Verizon. I was really tentative to make the switch, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I think you will find Sprint's coverage to be fine. Obviously, this all depends on where you live and Sprint's network where you are. Good luck!!!

Upgraded my Samsung M520 (that has talking caller ID,app for citibank) to the Palm Pre. So far not too happy with the phone after owning it for a few hours. This phone's short comings are
1. no video camera (can't record video's)
2. can't add additional memory
3. limited available apps
4. No installed games
5. Quick launch screen limited to 4 apps including phone.(unlike the iPhone's home screen)(Guess I'm spoiled from using Treo's start menu & being able to access most apps)
I own several Treo's including the Pro as of now and hoped this would be an improvement over the Treo Pro small keyboard area vs the Treo 800's keyboard which is nice and easy to text with one hand which I also own and it fell short.
6. Ringer volume is not loud...

1) Easily fixable with an update (coming soon, supposedly).
2) Would be nice to have expandable memory, yes. If you plan on have=ing tons of music and photos, could be a problem
3) So what. They're coming.
4) So what? Unless that bothers you so much, of course.
5) Startin' to get a little picky here...no?
6) Ringer could be lounder, yes. Again...there will be a pp for that. With the Treo it was Volume Care.
7)Yes. Battery truly does have it's shortcomings. That's why a vehicle charger is a must, and I'm sure an after market extended battery will follow.

No deal breakers here, for me anyway. Will you keep the device?

I'm planning on keeping it a few more days....
If it doesn't serve my purposes then it's going back like the Touch Pro I owned for a week.

If use mp3's for ringers they are much louder, but if you want to make the stock ringer louder i suggest you go to Precentral.net. They have a program called mp3gain the stock ringer are set at 50 or 60 percent,my ringer are loud.

Hi Kinster. Thanks for the heads up. If I understand you correctly, this will make the STOCK ringers louder? The ones that come with the pre??? That would be great because they definitely are not loud enough.

That;s correct if you go to precentral.net they will show you how, in fact in you click on the link on the post it will have the ringer aleady converted. Now all you have to do is remove yours and add theirs. Your new ringers will now have loud next to each one.

Ok first off I just got my hands on one at the call center, this girl got one.

Ur problem with the apps is a joke.

all u have to do is press the center key (the only button on the phone) and press the home icon on the screen and there is all ur apps.
two buttons??? thats not simple to you??? ๐Ÿคจ

only has four apps? the phone "JUST" came out, with a brand new OS what did u expect?

Seems to suck up battery life? hmmm if ur doing alot of stuff on ur phone wouldnt only make sense to get a car charger or a extra charger. u cant blame the phone for u wanting to watch movies on ur phone* and then the battery is low. *hence the keyword phone*

no installed games? what are u a kid? this is a mans world. plus u can go online and play a...

To answer your questions.....
I will give the phone a week. MY SANYO was plenty loud enough to hear in the truck. As far as apps....after using WINDOWS based phones I'm used to being able to do more than make a phone call wiih a $600 phone. As far as movies go I would like to be able when I chose to video record something when I need to with my line of work. You don't have to aggree with me I was just stating why the phone was no good for me...to replace my Sanyo M520.
Curious though...how many phones out there have TALKING CALLER ID either through the speaker or your bluetooth headset?

on battery life, with a fully powered device I streamed Pandora non-stop for six hours straight just yesterday. I wanted to test out its battery life before it went to market. I did do the occasional web-browsing and youtubing on it as well. Six hours of solid usage is very good and should meet the needs of most users. I suggest checking your email settings to help conserve some life.

The phone does do plenty more than make phone calls though. There are only about 20 apps available right now but by the end of the year I'd expect you see hundreds if not thousands of apps available.

Patience is a virtue, however if you're primary concerns revolve mainly around making phone calls alone you might have bought the wrong phone in the fir...

Eric...I do agree with some of the things you've mentioned ...curious though....how long did you let your phone charge before using it. Mine is dead. Won't accept a charge, won't reboot, won't do a thing. Tried to exchange it only to find out they had completely sold out. Reminds me of my Treo 800 and how it held a charge. The soonest it can be replaced is Wen.....because no one in the Chicagoland area has any. I'm trying to give the phone one more shot but being deprived the use of it durning the 30 day keep or take it back period over all affects the time I can use it. Curious though.....insiders said that same thing about the Treo Pro and having to have a everything plan and I'm using mine pretty ok with the plan I have with no problems.....

It went from pretty much dead to a 100% full (taping the upper right of the screen will tell you just how full the battery is) It took about three hours to get it to that point. About the same as most phone on the market today.

As far as the insider info, someone is misinformed. While its highly suggested you get some kind of data plan with a PDA device it is not absolutely mandatory. Failure to have either an Everything Data plan or a data attachment of atleast $25 may lead to them not honoring your rebate so there is motivation to go the safe route but the systems will still let you activate the phone without one.

There are two devices that are an exception to this. They are the Instinct and the Pre (notwithstanding certain busines...

My phone was fully charged and pretty much stayed plugged in unless I was trying to figure out how to do something with it while talking to Palm Tech support. It had been charging for several hours before I even attempted to play with it. Put it down for a few moments as I was reviewing reviews on the phone and was attempting to try some of the tricks I saw and it was DEAD....no indication it was going dead or anything, just a black screen, that never powered back up. AS far as the data plans.... I have friends with unlimited power vision(data) plans that included GPS and they have been able to activate everything they bought including Blackberrys, the Instinct and now my friend has his Pre working just fine. Mine is back at the store (a pl...

Either your friends are lying to you about their plan, on an eligible everything business plan or they are on a special employee everything referral plus plan.

I am a Sprint employee and the ONLY plans that work with an Instinct or a Pre. The POS systems won't even let you tender out a transaction without one of those plans attached. In fact, even the old SERO plans no longer work with a Blackberry let alone a Pre or Instinct.

^^^^that sounds like it went into sleep mode due to inactivity. you just need to tap the power button on the top right of the phone to bring it back to life. It was designed that way to avoid ghost dialing someone from your pocket.

Trust me the phone had a quick death. The tech guy @ Sprint tried everything and had it replaced.I'm trying to give it a chance now but I tried the streaming music to my bluetooth headphones and didn't make it through an 8hr night...something like 6hr or so. This phone has it's good points and bad points.....comparing it to an iPhone is cool since it can multi task but since they are coming out with a 32GB version it would have been smart to itclude a microSD slot to handle the largest you can buy as well as video...it has nothing on a Windows mobile device though, No Office,no games, notepad, word, can't play avi or wmv, try opening more than (3) apps, cards or anything else for that fact and the phone will tell you to close some cards first....

Sorry you didn't read my prior posts but I'm on my 3rd Pre now.First Pre died the same day in a matter of hours and wouldn't hold a charge so the tech gave it his best shot and gave me a brand new one a few days later. After a week phone got so hot screen cracked so back to the store for another one. On my 3rd one now and leaning toward taking it back. It's iPhone like but no iPhone screen is half the size.Installed programs so far or at least for me don't work as intended. Got a email with a powerpoint attachment and it couldn't open or a wav file but my sorry windows Treo Pro handled them with no problems. Tried to adjust the sounds but once again on the Pre I can't but on that Winmo phone I can. Backup is nothing like the Sprite Backup on...

Wow somebody just got roasted! ๐Ÿคญ I couldn't have said it better myself. But to each his own everyone has different taste and honestly david10240 I can agree with u on some of the short coming but give the Pre a break this is the first of its kind and the first wave. For what its worth the Pre strong points blows the competition away and there's only more to come. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I am a devout iPhone supporter and I think you are being ignorant... there have been DOZENS of reviews saying the speaker volume isn't as loud as other palm devices! If you would have read at least one interview with Palm you would have read about your problems 1,2,3,4,5 and the review from phonescoop talked about your issues 6&7! you can admit you bit off more than you can chew and now your starting to realize you should have researched the Pre before you bought it... personally I think the Pre is a great device but they should have targeted the "New York Business man" and not the "I can't hear anything in my Truck" common folk. I don't want to insult you but you knew what you were buying and if you didn't know then sorry for you.

Ok so let me also say that I myself am an Iphone lover as well but, after digging into this phone today at the Pocono 200 in the Sprint tent I must say that the Pre could be the Iphone killer but unfortunately it is on Sprint and well let's just say that I would shoot myself before dealing with Sprints customer service.

The greatest dream in the Cellular Phone world is a company that has Verizons service and T-Mobiles customer Service running the Pre.

๐Ÿคฃ It's actually targeted for the people in the middle of those two groups. wouldn't make the best business phone or be the best choice for the regular phone crowd who likes to text too much. Just does a little bit of everything.
Funny description. Made me LMAO ๐Ÿคฃ

***Note**** If you have an older plan that includes unlimited data and texting don't let them talk you into getting an everything plan...it will work with those plans

^^^^^^^the very limited amount of selections possible through FDT tell me different. The Everything Data plans aren't being offered because we want to, they're being offered because we have to.

Being an early adopter of such a phone, be it an iphone, g1 or Pre, one has to expect not having a big stable of applications right out of the gate, you have to give it time. Of all the bitching, the one I agree is the 8gb, but its not an unlivable to live with. As far as battery, I'm sure Seido or some similar phone outfitter will have a better battery before to long.

Consider me a Pre lover 2 ๐Ÿ˜ Its more then just a phone its a gateway keeps all my messages and IM intack as well as twitter, facebook, myspace, and all my emails. The overall feel of the phone is nice and picture quality is crisp and clear. Have been getting complements from everyone at work all day ๐Ÿคค . There is a small learning curve but its worth the pay off. Its also what makes this phone so original. Can't get enough! Right now I got my Touch Pro in the backseat while my Palm Pre is riding shotgun ๐Ÿ˜Ž
