Rumor has it that this phone is supposed to go up against the likes of the iPhone. By saying that it can sync with iTunes... sorry but thats not enough for hard core fans of Apple products to swap over to this phone with a smaller screen. Can it sync my iCal can it sync my iPhotos, can it work on Mobile Me. All they can come up with is "It will sync with iTunes"....Ya I'll be the 1st one in line for this phone....NOT
Didnt Sprint also have a phone that was supposed to come up against the iPhone awhile ago? I can tell that one was a big hit.... ๐Ÿ˜›

If you are an itunes user, have mobile me, ical, and need to sync with iphotos, you should be looking at an iphone.

unless you aren't happy with the iphone? ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Too funny ๐Ÿคฃ

sure if all you need out of your device is to sync with all your apple products then the iPhone is the no brainer.

that doesn't make the iPhone superior by a mile overall, just better for you. if you're like me and want to have multiple apps running, multiple browsers open, physical keyboard, sync outlook and facebook contacts and calendar over the air, flash support, pic messaging, full turn by turn nav then pre is the way to go.

will the pre kill the iphone? of course not, there will always be loyal iphone users. is the pre better? for me, absolutely.

The Iphone is for kids now. Its like the 2k9 version of the Sidekick all you see with Iphones now are high school kids. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ Blackberry and Palm are the way to go.

Good gracious, all the mud!!!

I LOVE MY IPOD TOUCH!!! It is the best PDA/all in one convenient device I have ever owned AS AN ADULT!!!

Every Iphone I have ever seen is in the hands of an adult and they all love it too (except the highway robbery rip off prices of AT&T).

But I can't wait to get my Palm Pre! Especially because it is on Sprint with a 99/everything plan. I have been waiting almost 2 years for Sprint to get a phone that I like.

So I will keep my Ipod Touch, with all it's wonderful features, and welcome my Palm Pre with open arms and get the best of both worlds (hmm... Van Halen song suddenly running through my head)!

I have the exact same set up. I really like my iTouch and my Palm Pre is a great addition. I've never used any phone as an mp3 player because of battery drainage. This set up works perfectly for me, too.

I don't understand. You're talking about Apple's closed, proprietary systems. Nothing is supposed to work with them except other Apple products. That's the nature of closed, proprietary systems. Frankly, it's quite impressive that Palm has reverse-engineered the iTunes protocol and made the Pre work with that.

Meanwhile, GMail, Facebook, Exchange, and Amazon MP3 are designed to work with a variety of other devices from different manufacturers, and the Pre works with all of those.

If your number one requirement is that your phone work within Apple's closed ecosystem, then of course you'll prefer an iPhone. I don't think anyone expects a non-Apple device to work with all of those systems until Apple opens them up.

Way to put his mouth where his money is, Rich.

The Pre is essentially an open book/clean surface that will work, with and has the potential to work with many, many different kinds of applications. Applications are being developed and released constantly for platforms like WebOS and the Android platforms. Now, if that doesnt squash the iPhone in terms of useability (because not everyone uses MACs or APPLE products for that matter), I don't know what does!

As a Sprint representative, I'm very proud to be the first to carry a ground-breaking device like the Palm Pre!

While in the apps category the iphone does have the big advantage. But the ability to multitask and the Pre's flexibility gives it a supreme advantage from a user stand point ๐Ÿ˜

Sounds like an Apple fan to me. I haven't tried a Pre (tomorrow, I'll check it out), I currently use WinMo (not even a fan of it either)

1. Mobile Me = waste of money. At $99/year, I could either just sync my phone (Exchange) or purchase a LOT of MicroSD to offload my data.

2. Oh yeah - I can use whatever app I want (Skype over 3G works!). Remote Desktop/ActiveSync/PocketPuTTy are my essentials.

3. I can upload/offload ringtones (no need to pay for BS)

4. Opera Mobile ~= Safari

@xzavier2008

I think the point of it being able to sync with iTunes wasn't showing how it directly competes with the iPhone, but simply so the many people who use iTunes can continue to do so if they own a Pre. The Pre is recognized by the iTunes software as an iPod so they work together. Nice feature, what's the problem? Some people like the iPhone, great. Some people will like the Pre, great. To each their own. I'm amazed by how many forum discussions center on the "mine is bigger than yours" theme. There is a phone for everyone out there. It's just a matter of personal preference.
