NO COLD SALES ON INITIAL LAUNCH....SPRINT STORES WILL HAVE MORE THAN 3RD PARTY

reliable sources say that you can't just buy the phone full retail. phone must be activated on service. Also sprint corporate stores are suppose to have more phones than 3rdparty(best buy, radio shack). 3rd party stores state only having 3-10 palms and thats it.

I work for a Sprint authorized dealer in Georgia. We won't be carrying the Palm pre til *AT LEAST* a month after its release. Corporate stores will have a very limited supply, at least until Sprint decides to stick more than one toe in the water.

I'm pissed. I was looking forward to test-driving the phone at my work before its release. Looks like that's not happening.

I hate to say this but get used to it. Sprint does not seem to want "Authorized dealers" so they are making it hard on us. I've done this job for a long time and in the last year that's the message I keep getting. Sorry if you won't ONLY go with us we don't really want you. Needless to say I am just as unhappy as you. This phone is going to be THE phone this summer and we won't be selling it. It's hard to believe how many customers we are going to lose. It won't be pretty. Good luck and stay tough. 😢

I hear ya man. Our store is exclusively Sprint but Sprint still hates us for some reason...we get comments all the time about how our customer service is "light years" ahead of Corporates...yet those cretins are still going to get the commission off of Pre sales and our loyal customers are going to be left out in the cold..

We're a preferred retailer and we're getting the Pre June 6th. So I'm not sure why you guys are in the cold, maybe it's the preferred retailer status?

It is indeed the preferred retailer status. If a store is a mere authorized agent and sells more lines of phones AND they are not in a sweetheart deal like the big boxes such as Best Buy or Wallyworld, they do not count. That's just my feeling. We never get thrown a bone even, just treated as we really are not wanted. It's sad too because we have Sprint for 7+ years and have a great reputation. Even the employees over at Wal-Mart come and buy from us because we know what we are doing. Yet we are being shut out on the one thing that could really put Sprint back on the map. I'd love to buy the phone myself but I'm not going to if I can't sell it. 😡

well with the massive amount of pre-orders (har har), and limited supply, there simply has to be a totem poll of who gets what. obviously they won't leave core stores in the cold, and if a retailer has the $$ to fork over for volume or preferred status, it's only logical that with such limited supply there is a "then everybody else" category. It's more necessity then Sprint "hating" it's authorized retailers.

That sucks for you guys. I've heard good things about Sprint stores, horror stories about corporate support.

All in all, it doesn't seem like good decisions regarding the Pre are being made at a corporate level. ATT was able to survive a disastrous iPhone 3G launch where demand far exceeded supplies for well over a month because they had an exclusive on the phone for several years. From everything posted, Spring only has the Pre exclusively until the end of 2009.

I'm an ATT IPhone customer. I'm also a early adaptor and I think that, from what I've seen, the Pre has enough advantages that I'm willing to take a chance with the new platform.

If Sprint wants to get new customers because of the Pre (rather than just existing Spr...

i work for a third party and from what i hear were supposed to get like 10 in the store and we can direct ship them all day. Lucky for me our store has already had tons of customers asking about the pre and said they would be back saturday morning!

The reason for the limited release of the Palm Pre is that Palm is expecting payment up from for this item. We are in a down term economy and this allows Sprint to make some money back so they can expand the release. Next as it goes for 3rd parties these stores are there to offered phones to customers a sprint store would normally not appeal to or have easy access to. Third parties are important to Sprint but with a limited stock of course they are going to favor there own stores.

Sprint has to pay for these phones up front. If they over estimate the popularity of this phone and spend too much money they could end up losing money. In a down economy this can bankrupt a company. Sprint is making a smart move much like AT&T did with the iPhones first release. It sucks for those of us who want the phone early but that is just the way it goes.

First of all calling corporate retailers names and assuming that just because in your area the customers tell you that 3rd party customer service is better doesnt mean thats true for the entire country (also customers will be nice to your face and talk bad behind your back - I've worked for 2 different corp. stores in my state and customers say our store is better than the other; then I go to the other store and they say the same thing lol). 🤤 However, I'm sure Sprint wants the phones at Corporate stores due to READY NOW. If the pre is turned on prior to activation or the battery is popped out etc. this could cause the phone to malfunction. Furthermore this is obviously a brand new OS that someone wont understand fully unless given...
