When will this phone be released for ATT? Should I wait for this or get the Iphone? Is there a chance ATT will release a 3G version of this phone; I don't understand why this phone would not be made as a 3g phone...

That doesn't make any sense. There is no "in-between". It's either EDGE or 3G. This not 3G, so it's EDGE. There are different speeds of EDGE, but it can't be "faster than EDGE".

Is it better to get a 3g phone or non-3g (edge) phone? Which has better service? Will a 3g phone pickup edge service/towers if there is no 3g service? Will a 3g phone get service from both or is only one or the other for each edge and 3g phones?

Also, what providers allow phones to connect through the internet, and how would that work?

3G. 3G has more limited coverage and can have shorter battery life, but the data is faster. More importantly, nearly all 3G phones allow the option of turning off 3G mode, so you always have the choice. Therefore a 3G phone is better if fast data is important to you.

Yes, all current 3G phones can automatically fall back to EDGE service in areas where 3G is not available.

Att WILL GET THIS PHONE. Its just a matter of time. Their 3G network is garbage anyway and many people still dont care about 3G.

ATT should the phone released before the end of february.

i just spoke with someone that i am friends with from att. the 8900 is going to be available through tmobile within the next month, and att is expecting to get it soon after that. att would have gotten it at the same time as tmobile is getting it, but att also just released the 8320 with the wifi on it. would be a stupid move on att's part to release the 8900 now, because the 8320 would go down the drain if they were to. hope that answers some of your questions

Thanks, but my questions are answered.

And I think the Feb street date for the curve seems pretty accurate.

And the 8900 might not destroy 8320 sales. It all depends on what price points they use. If the separate them by atleast $150, it just gives people options.

My entire immediate family has att beside me. So I am very familiar with their offerings in my area. Thats awesome that it works well for you, but for many people ACROSS THE COUNTRY its not very consistent or nearly as fast as verizons Rev A coverage.

They still have a lot of work to do to reach their CDMA counterparts in the U.S.

The odd thing by me, in Ocean County, NJ its fast, I mean fast. But today when in NYC by midtown, didn't seem as snappy, now the city is filled with tourists. North American and elsewhere, crowds all over from the theater district up to the 5th Ave. Apple Store and Nokia store off 5th Ave. I'm sure it had something to do with it. When I mean crowds, like having a hard time walking down the sidewalk. And not even being able to get anywhere near the tree in Rockefeller Center.

When I went down to Little Italy/Chinatown, will still crowded, didn't see people using their phones. Service was vastly improved. Might also be its close to the financial district as well as government buildings with a far more beefed up network. BTW is was si...

WOW! Quite the Verizon fanboy aren't you? AT&T's coverage is fine. I get better signal strength in both 3G and Edge than I ever did with VZW in many places. It is true that VZW outperforms AT&T in some places. To state as a fact that their 3G network is 'garbage' is a completely baseless opinion. AT&T's 3G network does eat up battery life, but so does the CDMA 3G. It all depends on where you are as to what carrier and what flavor of service is appropriate for you.
