Front display tricks.

I have read a couple of reviews where the person is upset that they need to flip the phone open to see what time it is, but you can actually trigger the front display to turn on by simple holding any of the side buttons in for about 2 seconds. Also you can read text messages without opening the phone too. Just set the text option to "auto view", and the next time you get a text, you can read it on the front screen. You also have the option reply with a quick text by means of the mp3 player touch keys on the front. Cool stuff.

Is there any way to keep the display on? I like to see wwhat time it is without having to touch it. Also I would like to see if I missed a call.

I'm sure you can change the amount of time before it times out. But if the front display stayed on all the time it'd probably drain the battery pretty quick.

As for missed calls I know there's an audible reminder you can change from like every 2-15 minutes.

As for holding the buttons a few seconds this is probably to keep from inadvertently activating features while it's in your pocket or something.

I wish I could disable this feature. If a text arrives while the phone is in my pocket, I've had the MP3 player's buttons actually send a response while I'm digging the thing out of my pocket!

My first workaround was to delete all the quick texts, but eventually I had to turn off "auto view". I still would rather just disable the MP3 player's buttons unless an MP3 is playing.

OK, I figured out how to disable the front panel touchkeys. With the phone closed and dark, you press and hold the "hold" button on the side. After a few seconds the front panel display will light up. Next to the battery meter, a tiny lock icon tells you whether or not the touchkeys are activated. Press and hold "hold" to turn this lock on and off.

It's in the manual on p13 and p120.
