will firmware updates ever fix the storm
It seems that the firmware updates improve things somewhat, but it is still a slow and unresponsive phone compared to other touch screens like the iPhone.
For all you tech people out there, do you think any firmware updates can really make it a fast responding phone? Or is the the phone itself badly structured/made to the point that it can never be greatly improved by SW or firmware updates.

Your phone will perform based upon the interaction of 3rd party apps DL. With over 60 apps installed, I've experienced variations to a large degree based upon the effect they have on the capability of the device. The best OS available is still subject to what is affecting memory usage and the combination those apps have upon speed, accuracy, etc.
The upgrade by Verizon from .75 to .148 provided some fixes, but nothing to be excited about. At times, my Storm seemed fine. Then in an instant, the lags, inaccurate field response to clicks I invoke, lockups, freezes, and in effect, a frustration we all seem to experience with this device.
I would expect the same problems with the Storm 2. You start with a phone designed to work properl...

The amount of and certain mixes of third party apps can and do affect phone performance. This happens on a much larger scale on any desktop computer.
Blackberries also allow many different apps to be open at the same time which is something the iphone is limited in doing...Too many apps open at once will create too many problems.
Performance will greatly suffer just by not closing apps properly. Many people think they have closed them, but if you hold down your blackberry key for a second, you will find the apps open in the background 😳
Always get in the habit of hitting the blackberry key in the app you want to close and select close 😁

I could add one more viewpoint to this conversation. Besides the cumulative space that certain apps occupy, there are great variables between their quality. An app such as QuickLaunch, is nothing other that terrific. It loads in an instant and was designed to embellish the Storm. There are other apps that load slowly, lag, and cause corruption. That, in and by itself, effects performance & reliability..... 😳
