If I did not like this device on two prior occasions using the old VZW software (.75), will I be more apt to like it with the new update?

In general, .148 when compared to .75 is more responsive.

-The accelerometer acts the way it should. It's not too fast or too slow.
-The camera acts more like a cell phone camera should now. Although I don't like cell phone cameras in general because I think they are all sub-par, this camera was really bad when released.
-Standard browser is much faster
-new QWERTY portrait keyboard is a big help
-typing accuracy is much improved.

It's getting there and I think you will like it more, but not up to it's fullest potential. The next few months should see OS 5.x and the Storm 2 at the end of the year.

To Hawk: What is the OS 5.x? Will my present storm be upgradable with this new operating system or will it only be available on the new Storm 2? Also, do you think many people will be trading in their Storm 1s for Storm 2s? Does WiFi really make that much of a difference with Verizon's network? Thank you very much....

The way I understand it,development has stopped on 4.7.0.xxx and is being renamed 5.x

Not drastic improvements like the number change suggests, but I guess all blackberrys are moving towards a more common software platform somehow and the numbering system they have for all these devices is a little confusing.

RIM is pretty good about always updating their blackberry soft...

Wi-Fi is ridiculous. I guess I fall into the "who cares" crowd. I prefer a cellular network with no hassle connectivity. Wi-Fi always has some hassle with SSIDs, security, poor service quality, someone trying to get $9.99 from you for 10 minutes of usage, lots of accounts, and the general disparate availability. IMHO most of the Starbuck crowd want free wi-fi to show off their device and get some ooohs and aaahhhs. I prefer bigger [better] battery life with that extra space and reduced voltage requirement. The only place with reliable wi-fi is my house where I prefer to use one of my three computers versus my small PDA screen.

Ur right as usual Hawkeye. I'm still concerned about not being able to save apps to the memory card though.

It depends. If you didn't like it because it was buggy and slow, then you will love it now. If you didn't like it because of the touchscreen, you probably won't change your mind. I've had it since day one, and although it was buggy and slow, I never hated it. I like it more and more as more cool apps come out.
