Recall?

phonebook

Nov 28, 2008, 5:49 PM
I went to a Verizon store to pick up the new Storm and the sales guy there who i trust told me that there might be a recall on this phone with a scheduled re-release 12/15 (which might also be pushed back). Anyone else hear this? any truth to this?

He also told me that another store in the area had 13 of these delivered and 11 were returned. What is going on here, is Verizon that incompetent? How could they have screwed this up so badly?

They screwed up the launch of the phone because they were not ready to handle the sales volume.

Sold out 400,000 phones in 8 hours. The 12/15 date you are referring to was an estimated "ship by" date for phones ordered later.

This phone was hyped up so much that everyone thinks they have to have one. No everyone really should to be honest.

Rumors floating around like you would not believe. Much of it is just rumors. Sales guys in the stores and even my corporate rep are not told as much as they should be.
It's a complex phone. Better phones out there for the "average" phone user.

I work for VZW and never heard anything about recall, and highly doubt any such thing considering the software updates already released. 12/15 was est latest ship date for orders placed before 12/7. Makes me wonder if the guy he talked to was Auth Agent or actual VZW employee misinformed

I just went in to see if they had received their working Omnia yet and I was told the same thing. The store manager was telling an employee that RIM and VZW have decided that it might be better for their reputation and more cost effective to do a recall on these phones until fixes can be made. The massive amounts of returns and service requests is really hurting them. That might puch the Dec. 15th date for new arrivals back until some time in february.

Okay, let's here your professional connection to RIM or Verizon that allows you this inside information that contradicts what different people have heard (and if you do a web search will find now showing up on the web)? I would love to hear your credentials since you have denied that you are a company shill in other posts.

And you got this info from talking to a rep in a store? We all know that they know everything don't we. 🤣

nothing on crackberry.com as of yet about any recall. We all know what you are trying to accomplish here, we all know you hate the phone.

why are you still here?

Add me to the list of people that have heard that a recall may be in the future of this phone. I heard it from a rep at Best Buy today so take it for what it is worth.

He said they have been notified that the recall is currently in the works and to remove any damaged units from display. He told me it was because of screen issues though. I told him I did not see a lot of screen issues on the web and he pulled their display from under the table and it was missing the screen completely.

I did notice that Best Buy did have the screen protectors for the Storm and a charging dock for it.

If I hear anything about a recall I'll let you know. Until then, too many rumors floating around with little to support them.

we will see

A recall might be a good thing. Then they could start over with improved software.

There are updates or patches being pushed through BB desktop manager already, but they are not major ones

1 update did download to my phone the first time I used the desktop software on 11/26. I suspect it was because the software was loaded before the release date. New ones probably already have it installed.

When you connect, depending on the kind of user you are and how you have your email setup, it looks like you will get something.

I know BES users have an update out

I was just at Best Buy myself and was talking to a their sales person about cell phones. He did not mention a recall on the Storm but their display was also broken. You have to remember that their displays are dummies though. They are not as tough as the real deals.

It depends. Typing can become fairly quick and quite accurate with practice but you will never be able to do the two-thumbed ultra speed typing some people are capable of on this phone. It is just not mechanically capable of doing it.

For a more in depth explanation of the reasons why, what this video and fast forward to 10:00 the mark.

I own one.

Typing and accuracy will be horrible in the beginning, You will be all over the place for a little while. But you will improve a lot as you use it. Within a week you will probably get used to it.

A physical keyboard is still the best for really fast typing. I would also not get it if you were pounding out 100 texts or emails a day.

I personally could type on the Storm faster than my Curve...and I am fastest on my iPhone. I am not a fast typist and the larger buttons on the Storm worked in my favor. If you are a fast typist the Curve would be faster for you since it, and the iPhone, can register over lapping keystrokes and the Storm cannot.

We ordered a curve for another person in our company the day before I ordered the Storm. I didn't like that keyboard design. It was exactly like my Palm Treos. every one is a little different I ...

The buttons on the Curve are just so small and rounded that I have to type with my thumbnail.

I can really fly on my iPhone using the two thumb method. That is primarily because the autocorrect software on the iPhone is so outstanding.

Would be a nice feature to incorporate into the Storm. It will guess the words you are trying to type, but it doesn't go far enough yet

Myself and my friend just got one on launch day, I like the phone overall, but he has to return the phone now because the back button does not work and it keeps freezing. We went to return it and they said they do not have any to replace it with, they had to send them all back to RIM. He inquired about why and the manager said that there were major manufacturing issues and a bad version of the software. He also said if he returns the phone within the 14 days, which you can, he will lose his new every 2. Thats bull. I may just leave verizon over this. This is the 4th verizon released phone that I have had issues in a row. I know the iPhone had issues but it seems like they are all solved now, so I might just switch to ATT.

I would not say all of iPhone's issues are solved. It still has it's quirks and some missing features. It is light years ahead of the Storm as it stands now though and it's issues are minor ones...as long as you understand what it does and does not do up front. The things it does do, it does better than any other phone on the market...hands down.

I do agree it had some missing features and also agree that what it does do it is better then any other phone on the market. I also heard since ATT and Cingular merged, the coverage improved drastically as well. I just hope verizon gets a hold of it's quality issues or they will lose more customers.

Yes, before the merger AT&T coverage in my area sucked. Once they merged with Cingular AT&T coverage was excellent.

After my initial liking of the Storm, it turned on me. All the glitches that folks had associated with the .65 software starting showing up with the .75 software, pls the accelerometer starting flipping randomly.

It is now my belief that this device was rushed to market and should be recalled.

Sorry Storm fans.

Could be a bad phone. Tried to get a replacement? I have had no hardware related issues that would need a recall done...only software issues

If folks agree with your opinion, you have no issues, but the second you state an unpopular opinion about a carrier or device, then the piling on begins.

Good grief.

no not at all. many people have said the phone was not for them. thats totally fine. but alot of people make mountains out of mole hills and thats wrong. the phone is not half as bad as people say it is. their complaints have either been fixed with updates or they need to exchange it because they got a bad unit. they dont look at it like that. they just jump off the cliff instead of thinking first.

A touch screen phone for the masses would be the iphone. There are a lot of people that this phone is not good for, but it's not an "unpopular opinion" by any means.

A recall should never be made for fixable software issues on any phone. The effort should be spent on software updates now which it is.
