How much longer must I suffer waiting for Verizon firmware update?

WFB415

Why is Verizon and RIM continuing to make everyone suffer waiting with a BlackBerry Storm with numerous software problems? It has been around 5 months now. What is going on? Who's fault is this? RIMs or Verizons or both?
Are they aware that the risktakers are downloading newer versions off of Crackberry? Do they care? Who keeps leaking these non-supported updates? Why do they do this? What's in it for them? I'm going to keep waiting since I don't want to take the risks associated with non-Verizon supported upgrades; however, I'm getting madder and madder everyday and may have to defect to another carrier if the upgrade doesn't appear soon. Any thoughts or insights into this debacle?

The leaks aren't bad, however it seems they defect after sometime. And by defect I mean that the download is good at first but then progressively gets worse at time floats on.
Hopefully, once the iPhone gets updated it will give the storm some real competition.

yea this is the very reason i left my storm in the dust i now have the iphone with the 3.0 beta on it and its amazing this phone can do everything the storm could and more my iphone has never froze or have i recived an app error message or anything like that. and it seems more and more people are getting frustrated by the storms lack of support so if you people are looking for a better phone i recomend the iphone and if u want to get the 3.0 beta on it send me a message and i can show u how i did it.

To hear it from Verizon and their Reps, it is RIM'S indifference to their "all ecompassing empire" and, by result, their Storm customers.
The hypcrisy of that position is so obvious, any other interpretation would be insulting to our intelligence.

Just by evidence of the many leaked OS, RIM has demonstrated their ability to improve this device numerous times. Verizon, being as large a customer to RIM as they are, could have demanded updates long ago, if that was in their best interest. But greed dictates behavior. Verizon, from a marketing standpoint, would best have their interests served by introducing an improved verision, later in the year (Storm 2 with WiFi).

Future customers of that device, would have no knowledge of the tr...

I have it on good authority that Verizon was the second shooter on the grassy knoll, and they also were the first to suggest that Saddam had WMD.

It's just a phone.

Sad to say, but this is the obvious conclusion. Don't expect an update to this device anytime soon, or at all.... 😡

One of the great things about Blackberries in general is that they don't tend to forget about their products once they have been discontinued by carriers. The original Curve is still getting updates as well as the "world phone" 8830

Still sucks waiting, and waiting...

Hawkeye, my remarks are based on the untimely response to us which is no response. Ultimately Verizon will have to "face the music on this device." I've said in the past, their "silence is deafening." If they were to come up with an improved version, the only hesitancy I would have in obtaining it, is all the time and effort I put into my Storm with 3rd party apps, and the down time to re-do them.

Its the time that has elapsed and the apparent multitude of fixes that you and so many other have brought to my attention that magnifies the loss of respect for this carrier. I was one of those awaiting this phone on inception day at 7:20 in the morning.

When Verizon finally pitches to the plate. will anyone be in the batters box? :ro...

To Hawk, myfortress, stormsurvivor, and shamrock:

Thanks so much for your insights. They are great, informative, and you really took my posting seriously and professionally. Much appreciated
and I will continue to read your takes on this software upgrade delay issue everyday on this forum.
I suppose all of us suffering together helps take a little bit off of our suffering. By the way, if there are any Verizon or RIM people in the know out there, please inform us on this forum when the next upgrade will be out. At least if we had a date in sight, we would have something to look forward to. By just ignoring us forcing more and more people mad at you and forcing them to download non-suppported upgrade versions, you are only creating prob...

WFB415...Thank you for acknowledging my post. I hope there were some insights that are progressive for you. I am not in the communication business, and await some positive word as you do. I have, however, made some contacts at RIM Technical, in Canada, and have received assurance that when they hear something, I will be advised. So if that becomes substantive, you'll see my thread all over this Forum in Capital Letters!

Remember this. Regardless of the OS, the Storm has the best screen on the market just by its default size and design. So enjoy it, as I do. The Storm is like a scale. On the negative side, it's performance can drive you nuts. But the Positives are heavy. We're just waiting for Verizon to bring on the "anvil." 😁

Are RIM and Verizon purposely procrastinating their necessary firmware update because they don't want to put the money and time into it since they are coming out with a new Storm 2 with new software? Is it all about MONEY??? GREED????
Are they going to forget and abandon all their loyal customers who lined their pockets with gobs of money who purchased the Blackberry Storm 1??? Is that what this ridiculous delay is all about? Do we just need to follow the money as usual? Does everyone realize how much money (check their financials) Verizon and RIM are making??? Do they want to continue making themselves and their employees, CEOs money?? Then don't you think they better release the Blackberry Storm 1 Upgrade soon??????????

Thanks HawkeyeOC for your response. I read the Crackberry article but if .141 failed, then why don't they use some of the earlier so-called updates that came out after .075 and use those? From my reading, some of those updates are excellent and work well. This whole thing makes no sense. Why doesn't RIM or Blackberry respond with an explanation? Do they feel they don't owe the public who enriches their bank accounts an explanation? If they would just give us a date certain of the new upgrade, I think consumers would have something to look forward to and that would be a very professional way to handle it.

I would guess every other prior update failed their tests. Verizon to me has it's head in the sand.

If it wasn't for the leaks, i'd be pretty frustrated by now
