alright so i work for a verizon indirect store and all i keep hearing is "only use verizon approved OS for your blackberry." but i keep seeing this new one here, that new one there. and i just want some opinions from fellow storm owners on the new "unofficial" OS's. 😳

i'm tired of the slooooooowness of my .75. and i'm tired of the..................sorry my device reset. (very very annoying). and i'm looking for something a little more up to speed. but i don't want to mess anything up. like say....my storm dies but the warranty is void cause of a bootleg OS. you know? is it beneficial to get something higher? is it safe? or should i just hang in there and wait for an "official" release?

My opinion is yes, the OS's being released (leaked) and the hybrids created are safe.

I just updated to bbcrackman's V2 hybrid without hesitation. I was so tired of OS .75 that I took the plunge to .103, then .109. I have never looked back.

Fellow poster will say "No to these leaked and hybrid" OS but that's their opinion. They have no idea what they are missing. Verizon needs to pull its head of out its A$$ and smell the JAVA.

The worse thing that can happen is you brick your phone and have to reinstall your software.

ok so let's say it "bricks" my phone. would that be fixed if i did a restore from my desktop manager from a backed up file while it was still on .75? not too great with this sort of thing. computers yes. video games yes. blackberry PDA's not really. i've only owned one since december.

If you brick your phone, reinstall the OS will fix it.

crackberry.com and blackberryos.com are two wonderful sites that can help you. This site also has very smart people that can help you but they will direct you to those sites as well.

Trust me. You have no idea what you are missing. The STORM is like a mild wind right now. Update the OS and your STORM will become a hurricane!

i work indirect too, down in fla. im runnin the hybrid .114. this is basically what i tell customers

my blackberry storm is running beta software. its not 'officially from vzw'. its from blackberry. they release test software for vzw to try, and until they are happy, they stick with the current software. the beta software im running is .114 hybrid, and its really nice. it has its quirks, but it is much better then .75. now i cant 'tell' you to upgrade it since it will void your warranty. but all you have to do is flash back to .75 and your warranty magically reappears. honestly, if you use your storm and are unhappy, then try the beta, and if still unhappy, flash back to .75 and exchange it.

on hybrid .114 the only issue i have is some...

Here's another opinion, but likely the minority position. I am running .75 and think it's OK. The accelerometer is slow, but I can live with it. I just want my storm to give me my emails, manage my schedule, look at some web sites and be a phone. I hardly ever use the camera (annoying as it is), and am not interested in having it be a music or game player. And I don't want to spend time upgrading the OS everytime a new beta system pops up. It's not that I don't appreciate the technical skills of the folks who are in this forum. I do, and I check in often to see what they think. I'm willing to wait for Verizon offer its approved update. Until then, I can live with .75.
