I'll say this for RIM. If your Storm isn't the way you want it just yet it will be soon. 😁

Try a battery pull with the media card out and then reinsert.

here is a helpful thread:

Heres a stuped question. Why didnt they put that upgrade (.85) on the cd they sent with the phone?? Seems like it would be so much easier that way. Can I take my phone to a verizon store and have them do this up grade to the .85?? Jo

The way I understand it, The phone manufacturer (RIM) constantly is releasing operating system updates to the various phone carriers around the world that carry the Storm. The carriers then pick the ones they like and if its up to their standards or they think a version is ready, they will approve it and get that version out to customers.

In a nutshell, .85 has been released by RIM to Verizon but it hasn't been officially approved by Verizon. Someone working ...

i pulled the battery and held the power button for 15 seconds and put back in, with same problem. so i took out the battery again and smoked a cig then put back and its been fine ever aince, although this morning the phone was sitting there not being used and randomly6 powercycled, but other then that .85 is great.

anyone frusterated at .75 should try it, however is u think .75 is ok then wait for the official update.

i first went to .83, then back to .75, but i think im gonna stay with .85 it seems the best so far.

thanks for the help/info guys its much appreciated 🙂

Just updated! Works great! Fastest I have ever seen the phone run. I have 1 problem though. I have my bbm messenger set to Cricker volume level 1 and the sound still comes out at 10? How come???

I was warned to stay away from this and the last update by a friend of mine on the inside of the phone tech industry. he said wait until 4.7.1 is released. Everything prior to that is just quick fixes and not very stable.

I can wait. My phone is running well enough for now.

After pouring through a ton of posts elsewhere about the update, in a nutshell:
.85 is more like an updated .83 with fewer bugs that .83 created. (I had some bedside mode and charging issues)
Most seem to think it's stable enough to be officially released from VZW as the next update.
Crackberry.com site creater Kevin said that at a minimum .85 should have been the initial OS released with the Storm

I wouldn't doubt at the speed they are working on updates that 4.7.1 is around the corner in January 😁

i never really had any problems with .75, i just like to try new things, thats why i went to .85 and honestly, i really cant notice a difference. only differences i have noticed is, like .83, when the screen is locked clicking the screen does not light it up, only the physical buttons. and maybe the auto rotate is a lil faster, the camera is faster when it wants to be.

is it just me, or does the battery seem so suck with .83/.85??

my phone goes about 6 hours, and thats on a full charge with gps OFF. (i read somewhere, i think on here, that the gps off helps, and it does).

anyone else upgrade to .85 and notice battery life worse then on .75?

I'll wait til it's official. I really never had any problems w/ the phone since I bought it. I did update it to .75 but I never had any noticeable problems even before that. I never liked being the guinea pig...being one of the first people to ny the phone is the most risk I'm willing to take. I like to hear all the people's responses before I jump in that's why I love this site.

Battery life is always an issue w/ Verizon b/c of CDMA. I go through a day @ full charge (if I tether for an hour+ I have to charge it mid day). I have my bluetooth (b/c of my truck) and GPS on all day. Also the phone always seems hot. I burn up about 4000-5000 minutes a month.

Phone such as the Storm and the iPhone, which have large brilliant displays and concentrate on multimedia features, will always have battery issues with todays available technology. That is unless they want to double the size of the phone.

Seidio has a 1600 mAh battery already on the market that will fit under the standard cover. They also have a 2600 mAh one on the way that will make the phone thicker by 3-4mm.

see when i had .75 i noticed the battery was ok. i wouldnt make it a whole day, but almost.

with .85, for example, i took it off the charger and 9 am, and now at 238 pm it has 1 bar and is on the charger. i have my bt on and connected to blueant v1, and the gps is on, and my signal is between 3-4 bars.

maybe i should go back to .75 and see if the bat is better.

@ that rate you would be going through 2 batteries a day if you had an extra. That is unacceptable. I would go back b/c there could be a hardware problem and you wouldn't want to misdiagnose the problem.
