I would call Verizon and ask but don't have the patience for sitting on hold for an hour. Does verizom charge extra for yahoo , blackberry, or msn messanger? Jo

No, but in order to use this phone you need a data plan for $29.99 or $44.99 if you want to use it as a modem. All the IM services you listed are actually pre-loaded on the phone - they work great.
