This or the IPhone?

Ok people, I have asked this question many times and I will ask again. I have been a Verizon customer for many years. I have had the LG-VX8000, Moto Q and it is time for a new phone. Do I get this phone or leave Verizon for ATT, just to get the IPhone 3G? I am heasitant to leave Verizon for ATT. My friends and family are on Verizon. Also, aren't the data plans more expensive for IPhone? Any thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

i think both data plans are $30/month. imho, it depends on coverage. the iphone is a great phone, so it the storm. where i live, att sucks so im with vzw. if i moved somewhere that vzw sucked, and t-mo was good, i would have them. play with both, and choose wisely 🙂

It depends on several factors. Do you get good AT&T coverage where you live? I am lucky and get great coverage from AT&T and VZW where I live. If I go to my mom's I lose my VZW coverage but my AT&T works. If I go to My in-laws my AT&T coverage is spars but my VZW works pretty good.

Also, what do you want the phone for? If you need it for business use, but also want that iPhone-esque experience, get the Storm. Once the bugs are worked out it will probably be the best phone VZW offers. If you want the best Blackberry available switch and get the Bold or hold on and hope the CDMA version of the Bold arrives soon as is rumored.

If you want the best over-all computer like experience switch and get the iPhone. Once you own the iPhone and lea...

iPhone is better in my opinion. I just played with a BB Storm and I wont be getting it (I have Verizon Wireless, and I do have a ipod touch). However, the iPhone is more expensive, and I will never purchase it because you can't replace the batter on your own. In addition, Verizon has much better coverage and call quality.

In my opinion, I am still sticking with my LG VX 8100 from 3/4 years ago. I have not found a single reason to upgrade since then.

At this point in time since the Storm is a brand new product, it will have software issues early on. The iphone is a more polished phone.

I am by no means saying leave one for the other, but take this into account while you are shopping. Both phones will have good learning curves to them compared to your LG too. Too many people whining here about these phones when they haven't given them a fair chance.

First off, thank you Playboy and others for responding to my post. The advice was very well thought out and I appreciate that! This is an example of a good reason to look on this forum.

Here is my situation: I have been with VZW for many years and the coverege is excellent. I live in Somerset, NJ. I heard that ATT coverage is awful. I am afraid to leave ATT. Besides, my friends and family have Verizon.

I have had the Moto Q for almost 2 years and am due for an upgrade. I passed on the Dare to get this phone. I played with one at the VZW store and an I-Phone owner said that ATT service sucks. The BB Storm has to be better than the Moto Q. Besides, if I order one at the store, I assume that I will get one that has the software fix. I am ...

My cousin has AT&T and lives in NJ. He gets great coverage now that AT&T and Cingular are one provider. The differences between AT&T and verizon are very small in reality. Nothing anywhere near what verizon fanboys would have you believe

I would give AT&T a try if you really want the iPhone. The iPhone itself is worth the effort. You can always go back and only be out a restocking fee. If you know how to work customer service you can even avoid that fee.

If the iPhone is not you ultimate goal try out the Storm. Hopefully the new software will be out soon and if it is not or does not live up to expectations you can exchange it as a faulty device and not pay a restocking fee. The Storm has enough issues at this time to easily declare it ...

Things to ask yourself.

Do you want to be able to print Pics at any time by removing the Memory card? Or just have the pretty pics on your phone.

Do you want Speaker phone/ Music player without having to hook up a speaker?

Do you want to be able to replace the battery if anything goes wrong?

Do you want to be able to record a video from your phone? Not an option on the Iphone

Do you want to be able to take a pic and send them to a friend or family members cell phone? Can't do that with an Iphone unless they all have an Iphone.

Do you want a 2.0 mp camera or a 3.2 mp camera with a flash and auto focus? Pics on the Iphone are often very blurry.

Do you want talking GPS? Or quiet GPS?

Do you want insurance on the phone? ...

Simply transfer the pics you have on your phone to your e-mail and you have a higher resolution pic ready to print right on your computer without the need of a card reader. It is nice to be able to have seperate cards for music, pics, etc. You do not always need the same things at the same time.

Thanks again for all of the thoughts. My primary uses for the phone (other than calls, of course) is web browsing, music and video. I hardly use the video on my phone. I do use it for pictures if I happen to see something that I must take a picture of. I often take the train into NYC and would love a media device to keep me occupied. A rerun of Sanford & Son would be fun to watch. The video on the Storm is supposed to be excellent as is on the IPhone as well.

Then get the iPhone for sure. It is unparalleled in those fields.

The only reason to accept the lower level of web browsing and multi-media capabilities of the Storm would be because of the business related capabilities.

For the use you are describing the Storm is not even close to the iPhone. It's web browser has difficulties with graphic intensive pages and is choppy. As for music and videos, there is only one iPod and the Storm is not an iPod.

I was beat to the punch but I agree...the iPhone is the phone to fit these needs. If you are in an area with AT&T service the iPhone would proved the most computer-like internet, video, and music experience.

The Blackberry Storm is a great business tool with good multimedia features. The iPhone is the all time best multimedia phone...period.

The iPhone does text message...as well as IM. It does not picture message. You have to send and receive pics via e-mail.

Unless of course you down load a 3rd party app like "Flutter"...then you can send MMS messages too.

I am going to the Apple store sometime this week to check the IPhone out. My family and friends are on Verizon "in". I would be spending 7- and then 15 a month for text messages. Is 5000 mins for nights and weekends enough? Is 1500 text messages enough? I have in text and mins, so I don't have to keep track

I have never really seen or played with the Storm, but my girlfriend got the Bold and I got the iPhone. I just wanted to try out the iPhone and see if I liked it. I was planning on returning it within the 30 day window. But the iPhone was so fun and cool, I couldn't take it back. I just kept finding new things to use it for. My girlfriends Bold just didn't hold a candle to it overall. Sure it could take video and receive MMS, but it isn't as polished and easy to use as the iPhone. In the end, that's why I kept it. And I hate Apple. I buy mp3 players and not iPods I hate them so much. But this really is a cool phone. But since I haven't seen the Storm up close and personnal, I can't really say if it will be like the Bold compared t...

And I bet you will see the Bold (well cdma version) on VZW as soon as they can get their hands on it, or if not, do what VZW usually does, lets Sprint work out the bugs then adopt it.

I have not seen one in person yet, but everyone I know that has seen one tells me they are very promising.

I love the idea o the combination of a true touch screen and an optical mouse.

The Omnia looks promising. I do have a few concerns about this phone though.

I hear from multiple sources that it is not currently 3G capable in the USA. You will be limited to EDGE speeds for downloads and browsing unless you are in a WiFi area. Thank goodness they left WiFi intact. I am betting the lack of 3G capability is the reason VZW finally agreed to have a phone with WiFi.

I am also not happy with all the proprietary connections. You cannot even put headphones into it with a bulky adapter.

The other concern I have is the Windows Mobile OS. I am just not a fan. It is nice that Samsung has altered a lot of the WM interfaces with their own "finger friendly" interfaces.

I do like the optical mouse and the vibrating haptic fee...

PPS: No need to worry about the speeds on this phone. Rumors that the speed was software restricted are not true and some reviewers that have mentioned the lack of 3G speeds were reviewing unlocked GSM versions of the phone.

I just love the enthusiasum of this thread that I have started.😁

I just got back from the VZW store in North Brunswick and again played with the storm. I watched a movie trailer and I must say that the video kicks A**! It is like HD on a phone. I would prefer the touch keyboard, but the push is not all that bad. The speed of the internet browser is MUCH faster than my Motorola Q. Is 3G that much faster than EVDO? It appears to be. wi-fi is not a major issue as the 3G and VZW coverage is good enough. I will play with an IPhone sometime next week. I am leaning twords the Storm. No, I am not a schizo. LOL

Let me first start with this I dont own a Blackberry Storm. I played with it for awhile in the store. I am coming back to Verizon. I bought the 2G I phone last year. I was soo impressed by the iPod functions I forgot about the phone part. Simple things like making phone calls and getting MMS messages from my friends who won't buy "Fancy" phones. I missed out on so many little jokes because of the hassle of going online to view a picture mail later in the day when I could access the internet to view my message. But after the high of the so called Jesus Phone wore off I realized I had an AWESOME iPod that I could talk on. My AT&T service I can sit on my couch and watch my iPhone go from Full Bars to "No Service". So for me it boils down to who...
