I like, but...

I like this phone, but I would like to know if anyone has information on how the following two issues can be fixed:

1. The phone takes about 5 rings before it displays the contact name.

2. I can't sync my Notes in MS Outlook. The basic Pocket PC allows for this and it seems like they should allow for this on Smartphone. Of course I also want to be able to edit these notes.

I am hoping that Microsoft comes out with a new version of Smartphone OpSys that fixes the above two issues and allows for the new software to be loaded onto my existing phone.

1. I called Samsung this morning. This is a well-known issue (just read the reviews). It irritates the hell out of me that they'd release the phone with such a glaring bug! There is no fix for this and they gave no encouraging indication that one was forthcoming, although they "hope" there will be one.

2. Notes weren't included. I don't know if or when they will be.

I called Samsung about the caller id issue also, they said they had never heard of this issue before. That is just wrong, they should not lie like that to customers. It was just stupid to say that when there are so many people having this issue and it doesn't seem to be impacted by the number of names in the contact list. They asked me to install the IM patch just in case there it contained additional fixes that might address my problem...of course I did as they asked and it made no difference in the caller id performance. They also logged a new call about the battery low timer beeping every 10 minutes once it is reached and the fact that their is no way to turn it off.

Another thing they told me that was sort of stupid was that they coul...

After another frustrating call to Samsung today (the level 2 tech knew almost nothing about this phone and I had to correct him a number of different times), I discovered this Photo Caller ID program that actually fixes the caller ID bug. No, I'm not thrilled about spending another $20 to fix a bug that came with this $500 phone; but on the other hand, it is a relief to see it finally working properly!

I downloaded the free trial of this software from Handango and did not see any difference in the speed the name came up. I only played with the software for a few minutes, but since I didn't see any performance improvement and I don't really want to assign a picture to the 500 people in my address book...I don't see how this would help at all. I also noticed that with this software installed, it seem to take longer for the number to appear. The name seemed about the same and the pictures/general layout was not that good. I just want the name to show up and I really expect it to show up on the external screen...otherwise what is the purpose of this external screen anyway. This bug needs to be fixed.

Sounds to me like you didn't reboot the phone like you're supposed to after installing the software. ;)

True, it doesn't fix the external caller ID issue. My external caller ID worked fine for the first week or so that I had the phone, then suddenly stopped.

Anyway, this software works great for me. There's no need to assign even a single picture if you don't want to. It still causes the caller to promptly identify your contact on the internal display.

Restart your phone and please post your new findings. Cheers!

I did turn the phone off and then on before testing the phone. I only installed the demo software, so I am not sure if I need the full version before the performance improvement will be seen, but I really just want Microsoft and Samsung to fix this issue the right way. I should have to pay anything extra (even though $20) isn't that much. This phone is $649.00 before any contact discounts and it should not have issues like this. I might try to load that software again, but in the quick test I did, I did not see any improvement and it also seemed as though the number did not show up as quickly.

My understanding demo version of Photo Contact does not include the Caller ID feature fix.

The full version does for me with 450+ contacts.

You can find a fix for the caller ID problem at the samsung website:

I'm in the process of upgrading my phone now, I'll post how it works.

The fix worked great! Caller ID is almost instant on outside screen and internal screen pulls up the contact assoiciated with the number.

I'm still not sure I want to keep this phone, not sure why, but, I'm just not thrilled with it. I'll give it another week before I decide to return or keep.
