MP3 problems...

I just bought my eternity from a friend and when i loaded mp3 ringtones and music onto the device, it becomes overly loud and scratchy when played and the volume reverses itself (aka 7 is the quietest and 1 is the loudest) and even when i set it to 7, it is still WAY TOO loud! Has anyone else had this problem or know of any way to fix it? Thanks in advance.
