We know the Instinct is NOT a smartphone and I am curious if this one is or not...

I think the definition of "smartphone" is increasingly fuzzy. Would you consider the iPhone a smartphone? If so, why not the Instinct?

The Eternity uses TouchWiz. It's a Samsung proprietary UI, although it looks and works much like Android. It tries to do the same things as the Instinct UI, it just works differently.

It only runs J2ME apps, like the Instinct and the Vu. Of course developers can do a lot with J2ME. Also, many phones that can run "native" apps - like the iPhone - have just as many restrictions as J2ME as far as what apps are allowed to do.

If you don't consider the iPhone to be a smartphone, because it runs a proprietary, closed Apple OS, then by that definition of "smartphone", no, the Eternity is not a smartphone.

1.) Smartphones use more data. It's a fact. That is the primary reason the plan costs more. Operating systems on phones can allow applications to access the data network constantly in the background. It is only fair.

2.) The ONLY way you had Media Net Unlimited on the Blackjack and Blackjack II is that you had a device previously that did not qualify at a smartphone, because DEP won't allow us to at it, even if we wanted to.

3.) I have actually, believe it or not because I really don't care, had customers who had issues and restraints due to have the incorrect data plan for their device. So, it's more than just the price tag.

4.) Rumor has it, ATT is going to be enforcing the data plan provisioning more actively after the first...
