I got my Omnia today on Verizon and I cant get the GPS to work, I am not seeing any related reports so I am wondering if this is just a lemon or if it is VZW doing their dirty work?

Is it Verizon doing thier dirty work...trying to force us to pay for GPS, what our government provides for free.

Look here:

for answeres.

Verizon sucks because they try to take advantage of us, but there are people smarter than that and we will work together. I got my omnia today. It is a good phone. Unlike the HTC Pro that Verizon Raped.

Obviously there is a GPS device of some sort in the phone... how do we get to it?

I recall on my vzw trea a few years ago there was a regedit that exposed the GPS interface, I didn't have much need for it then but it would come in handy now.

Any advice please let me know...

also the howardforums link above seems to dead end....

I wish the article had been more specific!

No specific reference to an Omnia i910. Article displays a photo of and provides link to the i900.

But, to good for our expectations, the article does say "Verizon" which provides the i910.

I'll believe it when I see it!

I have Google Maps Mobile loaded and working great!
Now, all that is needed is for Vzw to remove the GPS block.
I'm hoping that will be soon!

you can turn GPS location on, but it still doesn't seem to work with Google maps, automatically... ...I'm wondering if it needs the manual settings, and has something to do with the com settings....

so I spoke too soon with my fully baked comment above.

Using the steps outlined at: http://theidoctor.org/omnia.html

I updated my rom...

After turning on the gps and then starting google maps, you simply have to wait a few minutes for the first GPS lock...

My post in error, previously may have been because I was trying to connect from the basement of my apartment building while doing laundry, tooo much concrete, go outside and it'll work much faster / better.

Happy navigating!

GPS now working with Omnia i910. The official link is available on the VerizonWireless web site to install the update which unblocks the GPS Block that was there and enables i910 GPS for use with Third Party software; Google Maps, etc. The update will also install other stuff which is a plus. This is a DIY Update.
Working fine with my unit.
I do find it takes a few minutes for the initial Sat lock but after that, no problems. Works in my home; outside better. I see as many as 7 Sat locks (mostly 5 Sats) which was a surprise.

No, update did NOT remove. Yes, the Etiquette feature still there after update.
Main Menu>Settings>All Settings>System>Motion Sensor>Etiquette Tab...place a check mark to enable.

What is with texting after the update... after receiving a text, looking at it and closing the message. I still show a new text, so i have to reopen the conversation. Then the same text is highlighted in blue, how do I clear the notification the first time? Thanks

Yes, I seem to find something different with this as well but not sure.

To me, the Blue Highlight indicates this is the latest incoming reply to which I have NOT replied to. If I select Reply and do so, the Blue Highlight is no longer present.

In addition, I am not sure but it seems that I may have to open the Text Msg twice (without replying) in order to eliminate the indication of an unread message. Not sure if this is "Twice" or just "Once".

Again, all of this is not clear to me and I will watch and see what the pattern is for Text Msging.

Maybe some others have noted a change to operations after updating.

Did some testing...

Go to newly received text msg and open it. That msg is highlighted Blue. Close without replying and the [1] indicator is gone. Reopen same msg and Blue Highlight is gone.

That is what I found. I will continue to watch the pattern.

I have no idea what it was before the update.

I think I got it...

Lets say when you receive a new text, you go in to read it and then you reply to that text and stay in that conversation. When they send another text to you (you still being in the same 'conversation'), you are still technically seeing the first new text. So if you and this other person are texting away and for example they send you a total of 10 more text messages, and you never closed out of that conversation after having opened the first new text...then you will still have 10 new text meesages. You would have to go in and back out of the same conversation 10x before it shows no more new messages. 😳

At least that's what I got from it.
