The failure to include WiFi connectivity cripples this CDMA phone's potential for people who need to be able to use it with Skype in most overseas destinations. &*)_!!!

Alot of Verizon's phones/pda's have wi-fi but the block it. So you end up buying there internet service.
So this isn't the best choice for you. For me a great up grade. I don't need the internet at this point. Love my Dare but some of the extra's it offers I like.

This is a CDMA-only phone. Consequently, you'll need the "Internet" to make a voice call with Skype using WiFi when you are in place which does not have CDMA service. Most of the world outside of the US does not provide CDMA service.

i thought we had this conversation before on another phone thread that states VZW does not block wi-fi but it's more of a manufacturer decision ...

Regardless of whether Verizon or LG decided that the Versa would not be WiFi enabled, the bottom line is that this phone will not work either for Web browsing purposes or voice communications with Skype or similar VOIP applications anywhere in continental Europe or most other locations internationally.

1. Only Smartphones on VZW ever have wifi. This is not a smartphone, therefore it doesn't have wifi. If you think you need/want wifi, you aren't looking at this phone anyway.
2. Only Smartphones on VZW can run skype. This is not a smartphone, therefore it can't run skype. If you think you need/want skype, you aren't looking at this phone anyway.
3. This is a feature messaging phone with an html web browser. VZW wants you to browse the web and pay for megabyte usage. They don't want you to get their phone at a subsidized price then use free wifi to make free skype calls. Get a computer for that.
4. Bottom line is, not every phone is made to do everything. Don't bash on it because it isn't made to do what you need in a phone.
5. If you are...

^ This.

What I would like to know is what phones have Wifi that arn't classified as smartphones (Either Windows mobile, palm, or Blackberry). To my knowledge no major carrier has one.

Just because it's a touch screen doesn't mean it's a smartphone.

a few dumbphones for Tmobile have wifi in order to be compatible with their hotspot@home service. Other than that, the only phones with wifi are smart phones. Dumb phones don't have enough capability for web and addon programs to make any use of wifi.

Yeah, and the tmobile phones are just for that service. they can access wifi for calls, but aren't feature heavy phones. While it would be cool to access wifi from the phone and use VOIP, that's taking advantage of a feature a carrier built into their phone for a certain service, not something they included because people wanted to surf the web from a dumbphone, or make wifi calls.

If verizon had the need for a verizon@home service, then you might see wifi-dumbphones.

Plus, doesn't skype make a wifi phone? I could've sworn I saw one advertised a couple years back.

Oh really? last I checked the phones did not have Wifi Antenna's in them because the phones built for the CDMA network did not include them. Just because the GSM variant includes wifi does not mean the CDMA version is capable of it. If it was, there would be "hacks" to unlock it.

Plus, if Verizon was so big on blocking wifi, why are there phones on verizon's network that offer it? Not many, but they do exist. If verizon was all about crippling wifi, there would be NO phones on their network with it.

The phones that have wifi capability have it even on Verizon's network. Those that don't have the chip can't have wifi.

This isn't a smartphone. It isn't intended to BE a smartphone. Phones that are not smartphones don't come with wifi. Why are you expecting it?

Wildyorkie: First, non-smartphones do feature WiFi. Example: http://phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=1806

Second, without WiFi or a GSM or WCDMA chip, this phone won't work in Europe and most of the rest of the world. For those of us who travel internationally, that's really important.

Otherwise, this is a nice phone for stay in the U.S. types.

Alright, So I was wrong on non-smartphones with wifi.

You know why it features that right? Because Tmobile offers a wifi-service where you can make unlimited calls from a wifi-hotspot for an additional fee.

Verizon offers nothing like that.

For world travelers, there are BB world phones for Smartphone uses, and phones like the Z6TV for normal users. if you travel internationally a lot, it's typically for business so worldsmartphones are typically worth the cost.

As carriers switch to LTE there will be more phones that work internationally. There will also be more wifi phones on verizons network soon, but I highly doubt they'll be dumbphones considering there is no verizon@home service to use that capability for.

Even if it had wifi, the phone would not support downloading an app like Skype. It will only support GIN apps, so you'd be SOL anyhow...

And I also don't know why nobody is every willing to pay for any of the services they want to use. The world can't be free.
