MP3 ringtones?

there are many reasons why i'm unhappy with both my current carrier and phone. one surprise i don't want again, is getting a phone that DOESN'T allow mp3 ringtones. so, does the g1 have that capability?
i'm sure, being an open platform, even if it doesn't out of the box, someone would have created a app for it, but i've assumed before, and we all know where that gets us...

well, let me off by bringing up my impatience, then i can follow up with, i've found the answer to my question. in fact, i found a nifty app called ringdroid that i could even edit my own from my mp3's.
thx everyone (i would thank myself, but it would just boost my already inflated ego!)

first you need to create a folder on your g1 memory card called ringtones (pay attention to case) and another called notifications (also pay attention to case) then add all your ringtones to the ringtone folder and all your short tones (used for like txt messeges incoming) put it into the notification folder and then put the card back into your phone... all this can be found on the net if u search right...

thanks for the info! i haven't gotten the phone yet, so really it was a question of if i could at all, and again, i thank you for outlining it, because, although i would have searched, anger and frustration would have likely led off.
this way, i'm ahead of the game when i get it on monday.

needless to say after my 2nd post, i wasn't nearly as pleased w/myself and my investigative skills as first thought, but you just keep showing me up!
anyway, i agree w/you 100%, this phone truly has unlimited potential, considering the open platform it's running! it almost angers me when i see ppl dumbing it down by comparing it to the iphone in anything other than the touchscreen responsiveness.
anyway, i'm heading to XDA once i get a few minutes after this little rant of mine.
