Battery life improvements?

Looks like a pretty nice phone, has more features than the iPhone and the open source OS is a beautiful, beautiful thing for apple to stick in their proprietary pipes.

I haven't played with one yet, but one thing I'm curious about is the ability to turn off some of the battery gulping features like 3g and gps and have a longer lasting phone. I know where I am most of the time and I can turn on 3g if I need it. Someone was whining in the forum that the edge network on t-mobile sucks. I'm not a t-mobile user atm, is that true or did I accidentally read another one of DiamondPro's threads?

Please for the love of god do not listen to anything DiamondPro says.

Yes you can turn off things like 3G, GPS, wifi and screen brightness. There is an app called Anycut on the android market that will let you make direct link short cuts to access those, very handy. As far as the EDGE its not bad. If your on sites with text like forums or blogs then its pretty fast, but slows down if there are a lot of pictures. Stores in not 3G markets should have demos instore to try out the phone on EDGE.

I live in a none 3G area and have had no trouble with the speed on the EDGE service on my G1. Only comparison I have is to the speed of a friends Samsaug Instinct and it is alittle faster then the Instinct is at pulling up normal webpages like Wiki. Just did a little test and the average web pages pulls up completely in about 10 to 15 secs on my G1 using EDGE 😉
