HTC G1
For Those Who Have the G1
I don't usually post on Phone Scoop, but I've got a couple of specific questions, and what better place to ask than on Phone Scoop...
So I have had a Blackberry Pearl for 2 years now, I got it when it first came out. Little by little, its gotten 'older' trackball ring is missing, the side bars are chipped, the screen is a teensy bit scratched, etc. and I am also out of my contract.
So, needless to say I am shopping for a new phone. Before the G1 came out I was set on getting a Blackberry Curve, or even waiting till a better Blackberry model would be offered by T-Mobile. Before the G1, I was sure that I would be a Blackberry fan girl forever.
But then the mobile world changed and the G1 was released. 😲 I do ab...

If I were you, coming from a blackberry, I would stick with a blackberry. It sounds like the G1 is lacking in several key areas and I think after the "newness" of the G1 wears off, your left with a phone that just isn't as capable as a good blackberry--In my opinion.
T-mobile is supposed to getting the new blackberry curve 2 (8900) hopefully by the end of the year or in early 2009. Check out crackberry.com for more info and they do have a video review available.
Once again, im not really bashing the G1, I just think that coming from a BB, if you like that platform--I woul...

I think you're right, G1 is not the device I should get, if I ever decide to go Android. I like the things that it can do software wise, but the device is not something I can be happy with.
Thanks so much for your response, it helps ALOT!! 🙂
I have been using blackberries for about a year now, and after the reviews of the G1 im pretty sure I would miss my BB after about 1 day with the G1, lol.
Good luck with your search.
Chris
efficiency wise both device has matching efficiency in term usability. but g1 tops rim on data transfer. (linux top rim on that.) linux was designed to to faster on data. also the fact that the g1 is capable of doing push soon business will take the g1 as a company device (g2 device has enterprise push). overall. they are both efficient the only diffence is what you like.
ps: look at palm and rim being rivals lol u will get a kick out of that
What have you ever used a blackberry? No way its as efficient as a blackberry for heavy, power users. NO WAY! Im not saying its a bad phone, but if you have to hammer out 150 texts, and 150 emails a day, I guarantee you will spend more time doing that on the G1.
And as far as data speeds. I would put a blackberry storm with Rev A up against any tmobile 3G enabled device in terms of speed.
And apple doesn't suck. I dont have an iphone, nor do I want one. But apple completely changed the game in terms of smart phones and pushed every carrier to do better. Its also one of the best selling smartphones in the world. So no, it doesnt "suck"
it suck in term of phone wise it is solid on music and storage. but battery is not FRU capable
There are ups and downs to the G1, the web browser is great, gmail is instant and overall its well put together.
The battery life is the only real downside, heavy use kills it. If you don't adjust some settings it'll drain sitting on your desk. I'm hoping that its a software issue and can be fixed, but I have to keep my charger with me.
Coming from the pearl you'll be dissapointed with the battery life, I used my pearl heavily all day and maybe only used half the charge.
Besides the battery issue I love the phone. Its good now but it will be great once more apps are available. It is not an Iphone or a business phone, but after more is released for android you will be able to tailor the phone to your...

I've read on these forums that the battery life for the G1 is very low. You're right, I am used to the battery life on my Pearl, and it would be hard to transition to a device that doesnt meet that same level of efficiency...
Imagine if years down the road RIM decides to go with an Android Blackberry??? Whoa...they need to join the Open Handset Alliance!
Thanks for the advice. 🙂
As for the bluetooth its not finished yet and google even said so. The issues with the bluetooth is purely software and can be fixed in an update.
The best advice I can give is go into a store and play with the phone. See how you like it.
I've gotten helpful advice here, and I think I may just wait for the 8900...it's like my Pearl on steroids! 😁
Do you work for T-Mobile?

So, I guess, "Yes & No" is a suitable answer.
crysti_reyes said:Well, to be honest, you have had your pearl for 2 years and seem happy with it, why not stay with pearls? try the Pearl Flip out. The Curve is a good phone and theres another Blackberry called the 8800 you might wanna look into. However, the question was If I was you. Well, If I was you, I would 1st look into the Pearl Flip and see if that works for you, then the 8800, then the G1 and lastly the Curve. The G1 is not a blackberry and will operate differently then what you've grown to.
1. If you were me, would you buy a Curve (or wait for a couple of months for another TMobile BlackBerry release, if any) or buy a G1?
Theres also another phone coming out in Nov called the T919 (its like the ...
