For Those Who Have the G1

by crysti_reyes    Oct 23, 2008, 11:06 AM

Hello Everyone!

I don't usually post on Phone Scoop, but I've got a couple of specific questions, and what better place to ask than on Phone Scoop...

So I have had a Blackberry Pearl for 2 years now, I got it when it first came out. Little by little, its gotten 'older' trackball ring is missing, the side bars are chipped, the screen is a teensy bit scratched, etc. and I am also out of my contract.

So, needless to say I am shopping for a new phone. Before the G1 came out I was set on getting a Blackberry Curve, or even waiting till a better Blackberry model would be offered by T-Mobile. Before the G1, I was sure that I would be a Blackberry fan girl forever.

But then the mobile world changed and the G1 was released. Surprised I do absolutely EVERYTHING with Google. Picasa, Gmail, iGoogle, Orkut...you name it. And Android is pretty revolutionary...

So my questions are:

1. If you were me, would you buy a Curve (or wait for a couple of months for another TMobile BlackBerry release, if any) or buy a G1?

2. Is it really true that the G1 cannot transfer files via Bluetooth? What can you do with your Bluetooth, other than connect a headset? Advanced Users: Based on your knowledge of Android, do you think it would be possible to update the software to enable this or is this completely hardware dependent?

3. The camera is sort of a big deal for me. I've taken thousands of pictures with my phone over the years and the flash is pretty important. I know that the G1 has no flash, but sometimes that doesn't matter. If you have a G1, how would you rate your night pictures/bar/dark place pictures? Are they crappy? Is the sensor any good at detecting light?

4. Does that piece of plastic that houses your trackball and home keys interfere a whole lot with your typing?

Sorry if this might seem a little drawn out, I just want to make sure that the next phone I get can make me as happy as my Pearl has...its a warrior, but it's time to put it to rest.

If I had loads of money to blow, I would buy both, if I could and test it out myself...but since I can't I want to make sure that I get the right phone!

Thanks in advance, guys. Very Happy
