Not an online exclusive, but the stores probly don't want to stock and advertise them. I work for VZW in a call center, and I have not talked to one customer who has had one since they have been available. It has been out just over a year now. When I was in sales for VZW, I sold one... just one.
Free phones are not always bad. It is not "What you pay for" sometimes. A lot of the time it is just overstock, or making room for the new models, i.e. the Chocolate. The Chocolate 3's are out now.
Look at the EnV, dropped to $29.99 online for a day or so when they were going out of stock for the new EnV2. I loved the original EnV, and I still get requests for them all the time.
All in all, it comes down to what you need in a phone. I talk to people who have went through 5, or 6 Chocolates in a short time, and some who have went over two years with one. A lot of the time it is not a defective phone, just a defective user.
