Sorry for the late response, I wasn't notified of any replies.

I could make a phone that does everything, has everything, and even makes me breakfast in the morning and has the ability to print bona fide US currency out the side, and it still wouldn't be worth squat because Palm made it.

You have to understand that some devices might have everything, but that doesn't make them good.

When Verizon takes back a device they send it to a central warehouse for processing. These processed handsets are turned into "refurbished" models and sent back to the stores (or left in the warehouse) to be used as field replacement units (warranty models). Verizon literally eats each of these units - they are not sent back to Palm or whoever for credit. Verizon reuses them in the warranty process.

Palm has always been, and continues to be, one of the worst for returns. Not only do they have the dubious distinction of being returned at high rates due to technical problems and user errors, they continue to be swapped out within the warranty process time and time again. Only the LG Chocolate 8500 and the RAZR are in the same class for returns.

In my seven years with the company, I've been on the "other" side of the customer experience, and can honestly say that no company could pay me a reasonable rate (say $50 a month) to carry the Palm in any of its manifestations.
