Price difference in store vs. online
I went to my local AT&T store yesterday and the salesperson didn't know what phone I was talking about. They had them in the back and didn't have a display out!!!
Then he ran my info and told me it was $199 without a data plan (which I DON'T want). If I got a data plan, I would get $50 instant rebate to drop the price to $149 and I'd get a mail-in rebate for another $50. I left the store because everything I saw online stated it was $149 before the mail-in rebate. I checked the AT&T site last night and the phone seems to be $149 WITHOUT a data plan. So I guess I'll be ordering it online!

I figured I'd try another AT&T store to see if I could get the phone now. The sales guy said the phone is $199 and the $50 instant rebate is for when you sign up for a data plan but the $50 mail-in rebate is available to everyone. I should have asked to see the rebate, but I was frustrated with getting different information from before and left the store empty-handed.

rebate says with data plan. period. online or in store, click it and you'll see. The rep was either un-informed or just wanted to make a sale and leave you with an useless rebate, since you won't get a letter declining until 2 months by then.. no 30 day return, although it does hurt his quota if you don't buy a data plan.

I figured as much about the mail-in rebate. What I didn't like was that the upfront price was $199 in the store. Instead I got the phone from AT&T's Web site for an upfront price of $149 - no data plan was required to get this price. I had to wait a couple of days for the phone to be delivered, but it was worth it.
