E71x vs E71

So now that AT&T and Nokia finally worked something out to get another phone in AT&T's lineup, this begs the question, is it worth it?

So let's see...

For the E71x, for $99.99 on contract, on the positive side you S60 FP2, a better camera, and no camera shutter sound when warning tones are off. On the negative side you get an E71 with only a data cable, battery, and charger, no more one-touch keys with dual functions, no homescreen switch, a different and worse calendar month view, no more cut copy and paste keyboard shortcuts, no more predictive text keyboard shortcut, no GPS Data app, no Nokia Maps, no email updates on the homescreen or any of the other customizable features for the homescreen that were on the E71, no Winzip, no mod...

On the e71x, you can't use mp3s as your ringtone. I could do that with my unlocked e61i and was very disappointed when the e71x told me that an mp3 was over 300MB and therefore too big to use. And I don't like that the idle/standby screen has been changed from what I had on my unlocked phone. The clock is tiny and at the bottom. I often use my phone as an alarm and having the big clock on the idle screen is easy to see when you're sleepy. The missed call and voice and text messages icons that you could select are gone as well. Now they're tiny icons at the screen bottom and you can't select them. And it makes more room for your tasks, so now the idle screen looks cluttered. As far as I can tell, there's no way to rearrange the screen like an...

Thanks the thread/post. I really appreciate the in-depth comparison. I'm still debating whether if I should pick up the e71 or the e71x. I'm more leaned towards getting the unlocked e71 now, despite the $99 price point from ATT. Any other thoughts?

E71 and E71x both have the same camera, plus I never have had the shutter sound activated on my unlocked e71

(Hokie, Hokie, Hokie) Hi!

The whole discussion depends on the individual's perspective and situation:

Sure, I miss the Ctrl-C/Ctrl-X/Ctrl-V that I had with my E62 (which seems to have been restored on the recently-announced E72).

But I couldn't be 100% sure that the E71 avoided the phone lock-up issue--where the only fix was to pull-and-replace the battery and then re-power the unit on--that had become a ongoing problem with my E62. I decided to take a chance with the faster FP2 feature pack on the E71x, which I'm happy to find doesn't lock up on me, even when I have 3-4 programs running at one time.

For those infrequent occasions where the E71x's software doesn't include a Copy/Cut/Paste option, I press-and-hold the Home key to ...
