New iPhone in June or update?

I'm thinking of switching to an iPhone. I hear that there is a new one coming out in June with a longer battery life. What are the other upgrades that are expected?

Is it worth it to wait? Or is this just a software update that I can do in June with it comes out?

I read about some updates here and people seem to think the update will be free for current 3G iPhone users.

Thanks!!

I work for att and I have the iphone with the new 3.0 firmware. From what ive heard therer isnt a new iphone coming out in june. Its just the 3.0 firmware which is a free upgrade to all current iphone and iphone 3g users. The new firmware allows you do do landscape texting, send mms messages, spotlight search, and stereo bluetooth. Its actually pretty cool so far but with the new firmware developers are going to be able to come up with apps that will blow your mind. Just food for thought! 😁

Wow. Thats cool news since I am trying to figure out if I am going to reactivate my storm or get the iphone 3g.
The only thing that holds me back from the iphone is the no turn by turn directions.

the plan is to make an app for the new firmware that will allow turn by turn audio and visual gps.

to the guy that works for at&t, you must not keep up much with any gadget blogs or rumor sites. gizmodo.com, engadget.com, boygeniusreport.com have all found different little things in the 3.0 software that indicate new hardware will be forthcoming. there have been various rumor and leaked reports saying there will be new hardware. i'm just kinda curious what your sources are.

to the original poster: i would wait for the summer. i understand that everything i have read on those websites is complete speculation and rumor, but all signs point to new hardware.

at&t is upgrading their 3g network to be the fastest it can be,(7.2 mbps i believe) and one report said the new iphone will be 'faster' in some way
the 3.0 software shows the a...

Word is there is no new iphone, just an update that is going to include 100+ features including faster 3G speed (current is 1.7kbs, we are looking at 7.8 or something along those lines), landscape texting, picture messaging, and forth. i heard rumors of a "iPhone Pro" which was pretty much just a 32gb iphone. But that has been it so far. Apple has done its best to keep everyone in the dark.

well if you go over to theiphoneblog.com they have two posts aparently vodafone posted a message saying the 16gig iphone is at the end of its life within the next few weeks and tmobile austria accidently posted information about a 32gig iphone coming out and then quickly took it down so with those two things in mind i think its safe to say that we are going to see a new iphone very soon

There will more or less be a new iPhone. A lot of the rumored updates for the 3G can't happen unless a hardware upgrade happens (better camera and faster internet speed). But we have to wait until June 8th when Apple announces it. My guess is the phone will go on sale mid July with the update sometime next week since iTunes is already updating their programs for the 3.0 software.
