Thinking about getting iphone, but (help)
I need a phone primarily to recieve email.
At the store I was advised to get the iphone over the blackberry bold. I am afraid b/c I heard that there are hidden costs to getting the phone such as with billing, etc. The guy at the storm assured me that there weren't any, but I would like a second opinion. Has any one experienced any unexpected charges from usage of the iphone.

I am also thinking of getting an IPhone as well. I have been a VZW customer for years and fell in love with the IPhone. If there are hidden costs, I want to know as well. If so, I will grit my teeth and get a Storm and stay with VZW.

I've had both versions of iPhone since they day they came out. For personal use, there are no "hidden" costs (I know nothing about corporate plans). AT&T requires you to get an iPhone data plan that covers all data (web browsing and email, for example). I believe it is still $30 a month for iPhone 3G. Text messaging packages are seperate costs. And if they ever allow you to tether it to a laptop, that'd be extra, too.
For the record, I love iPhone (best device I've used) but if I were primarily interested in email, I'd get the Bold (or possibly the 8900 in the next few months). Emails may look prettier on iPhone but BB is just more efficient.

There are no "hidden charges" with an iPhone. You pay a flat rate for pretty much everything the phone is capable of doing. Those are just desperate lies from competitors.
If you want a phone for e-mail the iPhone is by far the best phone for displaying HTML email. You would get the most true and computer like experience with the iPhone.
If you want the fastest PUSH and do not care about graphics and embedded items as much, Bhas probably the fastest email service.

Other than the push function, e-mail is actually superior on iPhone. The iPhone handles a much wider array of HTML e-mail without issue.
The iPhone does not do as good a job with immediate notification of e-mail as a BB but it does download e-mail every time you launch your e-mail app.

i see your point. i just think its funny. i went with a friend looking to buy a truck, the sales men asked what he was looking for and my friend replied "anything but ford".
