What's next for the iPhone....and a question about data plans...

Has anyone heard what the next step is for the iPhone? I'm considering buying one, but I'd hate to do it and then a new version be released within a month or so (perhaps larger capacity?).

Also, I have one of the old Nation 1000 plans with 1000 Rollover minutes per month for 39.99 and I have no interest in changing that plan for an iPhone. I know with the first-gen iPhone, you could add data to an existing plan for $20. I had heard that you could do the same for the 3G version for $30. Still, I noticed that AT&T is marketing iPhone-specific rate plans now that include the data, but no actual separate data plan for those of us with old plans that we wish to keep with an iPhone. Can I keep my current plan and simply add data for the ...

That's the problem with Apple, though. Nothing is official until it's, um, official.

Surely there will make a 32GB version at some point, right? It was Jan-Feb last year that they released the 16GB 1st Gen iPhone. But perhaps they'll wait until summer when they release a whole new 3rd Gen device? (Assuming they do, of course.)

Don't know about ATT plans but bottom line is- Apple are constantly sending firmware updates to improve performance and update features. Other than memory and perhaps a higher res camera- there's nothing to wait for since you'll be able to get all updates for free once you own the device. If the feature set suits you- get it.

Makes sense. I'm not due for an upgrade until Feb. though, so maybe we'll all know more then.

Still, the data plan could be a deal-breaker. If I can't keep my current non-iPhone plan and just add the iPhone data plan, that's a no-go for me. They don't offer anything close to comparable to that plan now and I've had other carriers tell me to not even think about letting my plan with ATT go because there's nothing they can offer anywhere near as good.

Oh well....we shall see.

Any suggestions on good cases/skins for the iPhone? The Invisible Shield by Zagg looks interesting, but is it the best option?

Thanks!

All I can tell you about the ATT plan is that both times I bought the iPhone, I did not have to change my voice plan. Just added the iPhone data plan. However, I didn't have an older voice plan (in 2007 I was using the plan I purchased in 2003).

I don't use a skin for the phone. Used one when I first got the original iPhone but found it un-necessary. Admittedly, I take impeccable care of my phone and would never drop it (gasp!). It's built pretty well and the screen has proven to be darn near indestructable (just check out youtube).

I too had the same concern when I brought the iPhone. I have the 450 rollover plan, 5000 N&W, and unlmtd M2M. I think it's for 39.99(ur plan sounds better)LOL They didn't make me change my plan, I just added the $30 unlimited data plan. Visual V-Mail is included in that data plan. I also added unlmtd text b/c I text my ass off. I think with everything my bill is $112. I won't know for sure until next month.

The Zagg case is really good, it's like brain surgery trying to put it on though(at least for me it was), after spending 30 min on the back part alone trying to get everything to line up correctly b/c Imma neat freak, I just balled it up and threw the damn thing away. I might try again another day. I have a gel case that covers the ba...

Awesome! Thanks for the info man! 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁

So is texting not a part of the iPhone unlimited data? You actually have to add it on extra?

You mentioned the Zagg case being good, but since you seem to not have used it yourself, are you basing that on the experience of others? I'm just curious. I'm borderline OCD and would be fearful that I would encounter the same frustration that you did. How does that case "adhere" to the phone?

My plan for unlimited data included SMS. Hope that helps. Even if I keep hearing that SMS is extra.

Are you sure its that much, because I have been researching the data plans and how much they will run if I get the iphone 3G, and if you have the 39.99 with data package at 30 and unlimited text at 20, that is 89.99, so you are paying over 20 dollars in Taxes?

(using 112 as a rough estimate as to what you said the bill might be)
