Don't believe the negative hype...

I've had this phone for about two weeks now, and it's the best phone I've ever owned...and I've had all the "smartest" ones out there.

Battery life is not that bad if you turn off the things you don't need. It's a simple task, and it makes a big difference. As far as crashes go, none to speak of. I honestly think that everyone bad-mouthing it either doesn't even own one, or they've unlocked it and stuffed it with 3rd party, non-supported apps. ...or they may have gotten a bad piece of hardware. The lines wouldn't be as long as they are (3 weeks post launch) if was as bad as some of the posts claim.

I heard the same type of complaints about the Moto Q when I was with Verizon a few years back... I never had an issue with it. ...sam...

Yes, believe in the negative hype because it's real! You want to turn off 3G? Is this not a 3G phone? Whats the point of having it? Are people with Blackjacks and other 3G phones imagining full signal when their Iphone 3G has zero? Hmmm, I for one must have seen an illusion when my Nokia had full 3G bars and my Iphone had zero. The Internet is chalk full of the consistant problems that you as a fanboy close your eyes to. I feel for you.

Why use the 3G if you're not surfing the net? Call quality is NO DIFFERENT using edge. If you can't be a big boy and turn off things when you don't use them, stop whining to others because of your shortcomings.

Sorry, but I can't agree with this answer. That's like buying a digital HD TV, then being told if you want it to run properly only feed it an analog standard signal.

I don't have the iPhone, mainly because I'm not willing to pay Verizon the ETF. I may get it once my contract is up, depending on reviews of the 3G signal in my area, and if the slingmobile app is out for it.

However, I am concerned about the battery life and 3G signal problems I've been reading about. After all, Apple stated with the original iPhone that the reason for no 3G was the battery life, and that they'd only release one when 3G technology existed that didn't affect battery life any more than EDGE. Then, when they announced the 3G, Steve Jobs stated that this had ...

No, that would be like buying a digital HD tv and leaving in on when you're not home, then complaining about the electric bill......people NEVER seem to make good analogies....

That analogy is no better. To make it a true analogy, it would be like buying an HD TV, and having to turn off the HD to keep the battery from running out. The HD is the whole reason it's different (or better) than a standard def TV.

The iPhone 3G was said by Steve Jobs to have equal battery life to the original. Apparently he meant it was equal if you didn't use the 3G. Not real shiny.

OK, I had original iphone, greatest thing since cruchie peanut butter, although I didn't like it for about 30/60 days. Anyway yes there are/were issues with 3G with 2.0 sofrware, however 2.0.1 seems to have addressed most. Anyway I travel & phone switches from 3G to Edge, would it not only use extra power when it autoswitches to 3G? Also Jobs never said battery life would be the same using 3G versus Edge. I mean is your 150 hp Volkswagon going to get the same mileage as your 500 hp Benz, I don't think so !?! 😎

JObs stated that Apple would not put out a 3G iPhone until a 3G chipset was marketed that would give equivalent battery life to Edge use. The one he put out clearly does NOT live up to those statements, not by a longshot.

Dude you are clueless, you obviously don't know what an analogy is. The point is that you can use 3G when ever you want you just have to turn it on and off. For an HDTV that would be like turning the TV on and finding it was on ESPN regular definition, so then you pick up the controller and change the damn channel and KABAM! You're in business! Don't be ignorant.

Argue analogies all you want, but the bottom line is this: I bought it BECAUSE of the 3G not IN SPITE of the 3G. When you tell me that it is 3G I expect that I can use it when I like, for as long as I like without having to turn it on or off. That being said, if having it on kills the battery in less than 12 hours it is a POINTLESS phone. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple. I think they just blew this one big time. It is a cool phone, it is a beautiful phone that does some great cutting edge things. The bottom line is that the signal strength sucks and the battery sucks. That is not opinion, that is fact. No analogy needed.

Actually, it is your opinion, the signal has been great for me and the battery life is as good or better for me than the old one. Saying something "sucks" is not a fact. You are ridiculous.

Actually, Skippy, it is a FACT that my signal sucks. That is not an opinion. It is my OPINION that it is the same for many iPhone users based on all of the other opinions on here as well as other boards where the people posting are more technical and less fanboy-ish. Because my opinion & experience are different than yours doesn't make me ridiculous.

It makes you ridiculous that you don't realize you saying the signal sucks is an opinion. It's all relative, you are probably in a building or house that gets bad reception. That happens all the time. We have a strong 3g network here, my phone works well in my house, it does not work well at my work. That is the way it goes. I am happy because it is what it is.

We have a surround sound system that we turn off when watching Family Guy. When I got a good movie to watch, then I turn it on.
