I havent been able to communicate with anyone for 5 hours now. I really think that apple or att should reimburse their customers who purchased the 3g iphone something for this huge f.up. whether it be a free activation or a credit of some type to our accounts

I need help understanding why you would deserve a credit for being out of service for 5 hours? How much credit do you feel you deserve?

Let's assume you're out of service for 8 hours total, and you're on a $100 price plan.

100/mo divided by 31 days in a month =$3.22 per day.

Divide that by 24 hours in a day =$0.13

$0.13 x 8 hours = $1.04.

I guess that's reasonable...

its an inconvenience. People purchase phones to communicate. i communicate through my business. If people are unable to reach me than its an inconvenience for them as well as myself. In order to have a successful business you need to be able to communicate. Without communication i lose business as i did today. So if you want to be a smart ass about it thats fine. It was just a simple question asking for others opinions.

Well, in my opinion and in answer to your simple question, you do not deserve a credit. It's 5 hours.

I'm sorry you decided to use your phone for "business" and NOT have a backup. Apple/AT&T owes you an apology, and not much more.

Perhaps you'd like some bonus minutes? Or, maybe $2.00??

i dissagree with this statement at&t how ever expensive they are are usige the phone to the full potential that apple allows them to remember you can only purchase exrtras for your iphone through itunes and unfortunatly apple controls that and at&t get stuck with all the bullshit customers throw at them. yes its unfortunate that on launch day people didn't have service but the iphone is activated through itunes and itunes crashed on launch day it wasn't at&t's fault as much i get angry with at&t they are a good company and use their devices to their fullest potential but they are expensive. sure companies like the big corporate bastards at verizon have bad ass lg phones but thats becasue verizon and lg have an agreement where verizon gets lg...

I work for at&t and I have the iPhone as well. I have dropped calls and sometimes weird stuff happens to my phone. I think someone should reimburse you but I wouldn't be 100% sure if it's at&t. My opinion, issues like dropped calls and things like that is apples fault! Some phones get better reception then others. Apparently the iPhone is not one of the phones that gets good reception. Apple changed the back of the iPhone 3G so it would get better reception than the first iPhone and they bring updates out to supposedly better the reception. So obviously apply is kinda trying to work on it b/c it's their issue so therefore their fault!

...I do not work for AT&T.

Whether or not I need a life? Well, that's your opinion based on a post on a message board, and you're entitled to it. I do agree with you about the iPhone, though.

The bottom line is this person stated he relies on one cell phone for his business, and has the audacity to feel he's owed something. At least I even calculated an acceptable credit proposal for him.

If you have a business that is so dependent on communication, I would strongly suggest you have a back up plan when using new equipment.

I can't believe any serious business person wouldn't have anticipated this.

I agree with bug.EXE. I'll even go a step further and say you shouldnt try on new technologies if your bread and butter depends on it until you know for a fact that it meets your demands. This wasnt a ploy to gang up on the original poster, but that sure is not a sound business decision. Besides, you must always have a redundant plan of action in case something happens. What if there was a massive catastrophic event like a tornado and it took out 90% of the cellphone towers ?

I used to work in wireless customer care and I heard this day in day out - my phone didnt work for 2 days and I need a credit. So what are you saying ? We can have our network down 90% of the time, but if we credit you, its all good ? So you dont care about "your" c...

I think that everyone still needs to understand that, when dealing with a cell phone, you are dealing with a machine.

Every machine made has issues every now and again.

Your car will break down eventually.
Your light bulbs will burn out.
Your cable, satellite TV, and internet services will go down occasionally.
Your landline telephone, if you still have one, still has issues on occasion.

To say that something is going to work 100% of the time 100% of areas is nothing but utter malarkey.

I understand that inconveniences are caused by machines breaking down, and that business can be lost; it's just a sad state of affairs that we're in when we've put so much reliance on a piece of technology....

I read allot of stuff here on phonescoop. some good and some bad, I just think I have to agree with this post and say the cell phone companies, I mean all of them. should reimburse you for service when their is an outage. after all your home phone co. would, your cable TV company would, your electric company would credit you, I had a problem with my cable at one time and I did not even ask I was calling to report the problem, and they just said they would give me a credit for that day! All your other companies are service companies, ie electric, cable, phone, just like your cell phone it is a service.
I am not saying that they should give you a free phone or a free month service, but figure it out what ever a day or a couple hours work out ...

Did you ever say what happened? Did at&t's service go down in yor area?

To a certain extent when you buy wireless service you take on the risk that it could be down due to the obvious wireless aspect. Don't rely primarily on your cell phone like everyone is saying and it won't happen. A business should always still have at least one land-line.
