Have the Storm...thinking about the iPhone

I am currently with Verizon and I have had the storm for about 2 months now. Already they had to replace my phone due to software problems. This phone is turning out to be just a headache.

The iPhone 3G isn't looking too bad these days but I really do not want AT&T. Anyone know if I can buy the iPhone and force Verizon to unlock it and put my number on there? Will I lose any features if Verizon is on my phone and not At&T Or am I just gonna have to pay the cancellation fee and go with AT&T?

I'm with Verizon too. Was thinking of the Storm but I think I'm going to get an iPhone too. I'm following your thread. I have the same question. I don't really want to go back to 'evil' AT&T but want the iPhone.

I have heard that there is a new iPhone coming out in June with longer battery life. I posted a question about that on this forum. Don't know if it's a new phone or just an update that everyone is going to have access to.

Have you heard anything about this?

Thanks.

i wouldn't waste my time trying to unlock an iPhone for Verizon use. do that and all you'll have is a phone with a big screen. 🤣

the reason for this is that the way data is translated and used on the two networks is ENTIRELY different. so it would be pointless. no itunes access, no internet, perhaps no SMS even.

i would like the iPhone as well but since i can't even get AT&T where i live, i'm screwed. so i'm on verizon and i have my storm and love it. maybe we'll all get lucky and apple's contract will run out with AT&T and they'll decide to go with the larger, more reliable network instead. 😁

to add to what sseymour said, the two networks are entirely different, not just data. the voice is different, and currently, they dont (i dont beleve) they make a cdma sim card.

basically, no iphone on verizon unless apple makes one for verizon.

No, unfortunately AT&T uses completely different technology than Verizon. The only 2 major carriers the iPhone works on is T-mobile and AT&T. Basically what I'm saying is the iPhone 3g is about as compatible with Verizon as an iPod Touch.
