What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.
Upgrade "eligibility" is based on how long you have been in your current contract and other factors. If you are the primary number on an account you can be eligible as early as 13 months into your contract but depending on your rate plan, payment history and other factors you may not be eligible until 18 months or even 21 months into contract. So basically:
rate plan (primary line only)
PDA/BB/3g iphone data
family text
And of course, the smartphone data+text (or tethering, or whatever)

Thanks for the helpful info. I did want to clarify your statement regarding the discount on the data plan. This is for sure? I just spoke with an employee at a corporate store this AM and he stated that he was certain that discounts will apply to the voice portion of the monthly bill, but it had not been confirmed if any discount will apply to data.
the corporate discount NEVER applies to anything but the voice portion of the plan.
"(x)% discount off the monthly service charge of your Corporate Responsibility Users’ (CRUs) eligible voice and data plans priced at $34.99 per month or higher when you have 5 or more wireless users (including one CRU) associated with your AT&T Mobile Business account."

For anyone that is using another phone they need to call up att customer care, register the IMEI info to the agent on the profile and you will be eligible for an upgrade...simple as that!

Yeah no carrier will really insure any phone above $300 because it is just not cost effective but we have a work around with a different company.. It costs $69.99 for one year or $119.99 for two years which is actually insurance not APPLE CARE which is only an extended warranty. Warranty does NOT cover any physical or liquid damage.
AT&T no provides insurance on every phone we carry other than the iphone and go phones!
The insurance deductable goes up:
normal phones like a RAZR or Samsung 737 has a deductable of $50
Blackberrys, blackjacks, etc have a $125 deductable!
