I am an At&t employee and ive been reading through this forum and there is a lot of misinformation.
The new iphone will have a $10 increase on its Data Plan so it will be exactly like all our other PDA/Blackberry plans that start at $30
You will have to sign a contract in the store at the time of purchase and the phone will be activated by us before you leave the store in order to cut down on the HUGE number of iphones being sent over seas.
It will now have a 30 day return policy like all our other products and if you purchased the current iphone 14 days or less before the announcement of the new iphone we are allowing you to return the phone and pay the restocking fee until Aug 1st.
Any other questions please dont hesitate to as...

Can you purchase the 3g iphone online w/ apple? If so...how are they going to implement a contract?
...
As of thus far you will not be able to purchase the 3g iPhone from the apple website. because iTunes will not be doing the activation.
...
I upgraded to a new phone in November of last year and started a new 2-year contract.
I want to be one of the first people in line to buy the new iPhone 3G, but I have no idea what it will cost me.
Will I pay the subsidized pricing as long as my contract is renewed or will I have to pay a 'non eligible' price?
Thanks for any info.
...
Anyone with the current iPhone will be able to buy the new iPhone with a new two year contract. You will pay the reduced prices. 199 or 299
...
The phone I upgraded to last November was *not* an iPhone. Will I still be able to get the iPhone 3G for 199/299 with a 2 year renewal?
...
as of right we don't know.
...
I just did a little research on our AT&T COR website that only employees get access to.
Standard upgrade qualifications will apply, so NOT ALL customer will be able to get the reduce price for the phone, and as of right now AT&T has not decided with the "No Contract" price is. sorry for not knowing the answer earlier.
...
My son visited a store (AT&T) and was told that the price of data and voice will be up by $10 each. So price reduction announced at WWDC is not really realized at cost of ownership level.
Sad!!
...
This information has been released. If you have an 2G iPhone, you are eligible to upgrade to a 3G iPhone at the reduced pricing.
If you do not have an iPhone, then standard eligibility rules would apply (if you aren't within the time frame that you would normally get a discount, then you'll be paying the $399/$499 pricing).
In either case, purchasing a new 3G iPhone will require a 2-year contract.
...
My 2 year contract will finally be up with another carrier in a few months. Will it be possible to buy the new iPhone outright and NOT sign a 2 year contract with att? Don't get me wrong, I will activate my iPhone with att, I'm just not overly enthused to sign another 2 year contract.
...
Three great questions there, I guarantee he can't answer any of them.
Vipe, we all knew that information, these guys are asking the tough questions, if you can answer them, I'll be impressed.

The iphone will not be able to be purchased with out a 2 year contract. Just like the *old* one. put it this way if you buy an iphone and activate it on At&t you will have a 2 year contract.
...
There is no "No Contract" pricing for the iPhone right now, so you will not be able to buy the 3g iPhone from the AT&T store without a contract. BUT if you happen to find one on EBAY and bring it into the store you can now get service with AT&T with no contract.

not true. when we activate the iphone 3g it will put you on a contract no matter what just like the exsisting iphone.

According to AAT, anyone can buy an iPhone, regardless of when you upgraded. YES, you must sign a contract at time of purchase. However, unlike VZW, rummer has it att might make you 'trade in' your old phone at time of upgrade.
...
Stop with the rumors VZW whore. I assure you that all questions will be answered on 7/11/08. Any and all information before then is just speculation. Bottom line is, ATT will catch VZW late next year if their Notell merger goes through. Whether any of you like it or not, the Iphone is an industry changing device. A lot of people who did not want to pay for ETF's and a $400 price tag on the Iphone now have no reason not to leave their carriers. ATT network is solid. VZW is going to be in debt up to their necks and I assure you that their sales force will feel the pressure, which will turn into mass exits in the sales talent = crappy customer service and crappy store experience.
...
we (ATT) have already surpased verizon...we have 71 million subscribers.
...
RUMORS lead to miss information. AT&T will NOT ask you for your old iPhone.
...
thank you...geez people

At&t will never make you trade in your phone, ever, period. its never been our policy. You HAVE TO ELIGIBLE to upgrade your contract in order to recieve the 199 or 299 price. We have no word on the no commitment price. And even if you buy it at full price you still will be signing a contract. these arent At&ts rules...this is how apple wants it and these are the things we have to do in order to be able to meet their demands!
...
Screw Apple. It's their loss. I just bought my phone in Feb. Real stupid on my part knowing the 3G was due to come out. This means I can't upgrade at the promo price and I will be dammed if I will pay the full price again. A Lot people are going to be left hanging. I

Im an ATT employee also, and we DO have no contract pricing. If you are an existing customer, you can buy the iPhone 8gb at 499.99, and the 16gb at 599.99.
...
IM SORRY...let me correct myself, I just checked my computer info and if you dont want to sign a contract, its $599 for the 8GB and $699 for the 16GB. Pricy but if you wanna complain about signing a new contract, at least you have the option, right? RIGHT!
...
We have that option, it just hasnt been released yet.
Sorry guys
...
If you can return the iphone before Aug 1st, can you also cancel your contract if you take it back? Also, how much is the restocking fee?
...
My at&t source which I consider reliable is saying the new 3G iPhone will sell for $199 for new customers or for adding a line to existing.
If you are not eligible for an upgrade, the price of an 8GB will be full retail at $399 and $499 for a 16GB.
If this is true, this is VERY disappointing to say the least!

why would this be disappointing...it would be the exact same price as they are now. every other phone we sell, we sell at full price unless they are able to upgrade and recieve the $200 price discount...
i wish people would think about what they before they say it.
...
%10 restocking fee. no you cannot reverse your contract this is a very rare situation that at&t is allowing this very extended return period.
