Compared to Moto W755?

blackburn5

I'm an old 8300 owner. That phone was a tank; I handed mine off to a buddy over a year ago (after 2 years of use/abuse), and he is still using it. I switched to a RIZR at that time, and used it unti various parts started coming off the front/slider.

I've been using a W755 for several months now. It is a good phone, but the new 8360 looks intriguing. I especially like the speakerphone key placement on the D-pad (instead of the side like the Moto), and I feel compelled to do my part to stop this recession, so, any 8360 owners have any experience/comparisons with the Moto W755?

Thanks in advance...

Yes, I also had the Moto W755. To be honest, I like this one better. I love LG's to begin with, and they work well with Verizon. The W755 was built like a tank, but this is very solid, I feel also. And I love the look of this one. Deep Blue, with a light grey interior, brightly lit white keypad. Battery life is better thab the Moto. You get like 5.3 hours of average talk time, and about 26 days of standby. I like where the speakerphone key is also. The size is nice. Fits into your hand very comfortable. Call clarity excellent. Loud ringers, and I especially like the fact that the stereo speakers are on the front. I think this one will do well for Verizon. I love it, and it is a solid phone in my opinion. I came from a Motorola adventure, whi...

Hi

The specs say the speakrphone is "full-duplex" Is it true office quality full-duplex?...where both parties can talk at same time?..(see def below)

Full-Duplex refers to simultaneous two-way transmission, such as experienced in a phone conversation. Both ends of the connection can hear each other at the same time.

Half-Duplex, in contrast, will transmit in only one direction - from the loudest noise - at a time. When one person is speaking, the other cannot be heard

I will really appreciate your opinion on this.

Thank you!

Tropical, do texts read out on the front screen? And is there talking caller ID? Thanks in advance!

Hey Tropical

My 8360 arrives tomorrow. I'm jacked! I have another question: I have almost 900 contacts on my W755, and use the keypad exclusively to locate the contact tele #. Is the 8360 contact look up as easy to use as my W755?
btw, I did get the rep to give me a one time discount of $50 so with the $50 rebate, the cost is $139. Also, what I told you B4 was wrong...they do charge a $35 restocking fee if you return a phone within 30 days. I guess that's fair....I'll post my review of the phone by the end of the week....later, Bill

Hi HandyGuy! Yes, the contacts I think are very easy to look up. I don't have quite that many, but like with the W755, just go to contact list, and they are there. Actually, I think it's pretty similar, if not the same as the Moto. Only a lot quicker. Let me know how you like it. Sure hope you do, or I'd feel stupid ranting and raving about it so much, lol!! But everyone has their own opinion of course. Glad you got the discount. Talk with you soon, Natalie 😁

Thanks for the replies, esp. trop/island. Like mellow, I too am curious about talking caller ID, and individual ringtone/photo IDs on the cover display. How does the front display compare to the W755? Can you use the speakerphone with the cover closed, as you can with the W755?

Again, thanks for your input!

Hi blackburn5! There is no talking caller id, bur when you get a call, it shows up on the screen, who;s calling, which is cool, not just a beep when it comes through.Don't do individual ringtones/photoID's, so I couldn't tell you that. You could find out from the customer service 1-800 number. The front display is awesome. Bright and clear in my opinion. Nice size also. Like it a lot better than the W755 I had. Hope this helps. I love this phone, don't think you will be disappointed.

Hi

Have you had a chance to look at my question regarding the speakerphone. Is it full-duplex, office quality, 2 way simultaneous talk?

TIA, Bill

Hi HandyGuy! Haven't really had a chance to fool around with the speakerphone, but I saw in the specs also, that it is full-duplex. It is a 2 way simultaneous talk. I even checked with verizon tech support on those issues. So I hope that helps. He said it had 2 speakers in it. Sorry couldn't give you much more information. I personally don't use the speaker hardly at all. But this phone is awesome, I love it. If I haven't answered you questions, you could alwayscontact tech support at Verizon. Hope I helped you some. Have a great day!!

Hi Tropic

Thanks for the reply...but would you mind using your speakerphone to see if it is really full-duplex? Sometimes, they spec them as Full but aren't. It's really important that I know B4 I buy it. I wonder if you could call me at 318-573-3857 (is that a TOS violation to give out a ph number????). If you can't could you call someone and see if it is actually 2 way? If you can't, I still appeciate the time you're taking to comment on the phone....Bill

Hi HandyGuy! I used the speakerphone to call someone, and yes, it is 2 way. It is like talking to someone on a regular phone. To me the sound is clear and crisp. I had the volume on high, and I think it has a great sound. I could hear the person I was calling loud and clear. Did that help, and is that exactly what you were asking me? Hopefully so, I hope I helped. Let me know if there was something I misunderstood. Thanks!! 😁

From what you said, it sounds like it is full-duplex. I almost wish you had said the speakerphone is awful cuz then I wouldn't have to make the decision. The W755 is the best cell phone I've had since my beloved StarTac back in the old days!...Unfortunately, the W755 does not a true office quality speakerphone. I guess go ahead and try the 8360. Btw, did you by any chance use "Backup Assistant" on your 755?...and if you did, did all your contacts transfer over to the 8360?

Thx again!...Bill

oops, sorry, don't know what happened there. No, Bill I didn't use the Backup Assistance so I couldn't answer that question for you. I know how hard it is to make a decision on a cell. I really like this one. The speaker to me is loud and clear, even on the highest volume. The color is awesome. Deep blue, with a lighter grey interior. The keys are evenly lit with a bright white. It's a great little phone that packs a punch. I feel this will be a good seller for Verizon. If you decide to get it, please let me know how you like it. I would appreciate it. Thanks, and glad I was able to help! 😲

Hi HandyGuy! I don't mind questions, really. I just feel bad if I can't help. I like texting on the 8360 a lot better. And that is beacause of the size of the keys, very comfortable, they are raised some, and like with the W755, the keypad was flat and to me very narrow, so sometimes I was hitting one key and bumping another one. These are large, but not overly so, and like I said, very comfortable to text. I find it very easy and I'm not hittin 2 keys at once. And for me, the Lg's are fast and don't lag like a Motorola did for me. So I hope this helps, and let me know how you like this if you decide to get it. Remember, you always have 30 days to play with it untill you makea final decision. Good luck!!

Thanks Tropicisland

And here's a new Verizon rule. You have 30 days to return, but you now have to pay a $30 re-stocking fee unless you return it within 3 days..then there's no fee. Anyway, you have been very helpful. I'll let you know how it goes, and hopefully I will also be an advocate for my new phone...thanks again!

I'll have to check out the phone in a store, because the color doesn't look very appealing (doesn't look blue...), not that that's important criteria for a cell phone, but I have to see this one. I love my W755, but I too, don't like the lag that Moto is famous for. I do however, prefer Moto quality to LGs lighter, plasticy feeling phones. This might be a welcome improvement though!

Hey mellowlen62! I love the color. And trust me it is blue. When I first saw a picture of it, I thought it was black, but it's a deep blue with a pretty light grey interior. It is very lightweight, but really packs a punch. For some reason, Moto's on the Verizon network, really lag and are slow. When I had the Adventure, it was very slow, the screen froze quite a bit, to the point where I'd have to take the battery out, and put it back in, etc. And this was after I had the tech's do a software upgrade to it. The W755 isn't a bad phone, I had it some time back, also. I just always gravitated to the Lg's. Good luck and let me know what you think.

I'm keeping my eye out for the Strut as well (Cleo as it's known now). That phone is a flip with a full qwerty, so I don't want to commit to anything else just yet, but this one is definitely on my radar screen to check out. Thanks for all of your input. If you learn any new tricks or features of the phone as you use it, please post it here in the meantime to keep us informed!!

I know, Maverick96! It has excellent speakers on the front. I read your review and so glad you love the phone. Isn't it the best? Verizon and Lg really got it right this time for sure. Can't even compare it to the 8350 which was so crappy. This is an excellent phone! 😲

Now I'm pissed. I used my NE2 in the summer to get the first incarnation of the Casio Boulder, which as most of you know was one of the worst releases imaginable. So I sent it back and reactivated my old trusty LG VX8399. Finally, that died for good sometime in November.

I desperately wanted to wait for the 8360, but just couldn't go without a cellphone anymore, so I finally settled on this W755.

I don't really like it and would love to swap it for a 8360, but I've used up my return ability.

Not happy at all about this.

Hey chappie! Is there any way that you can pay full retail for this phone? My new every two is not up for quite awhile, and I had the Motorola Adventure. I couldn't stand that phone, and I flipped ober the 8360 when I saw it, and I paid out right for it. Not that I really could do that, but I hated that Moto. It was the best move I made. If you could do the retail price on it, then that's the only way to go since you're time is up for returns or exchanges. Good luck!! ☚ī¸

I don't know. I don't have the phone, but I looked at this in the store finally, and I just don't know. My husband has the 8300 and I have the Moto 755, and I think BOTH of those phones are sturdier than this. This is the typical plastic LG of late, and I'm just not that impressed. I'd need to see more reviews on it, but I don't find it that visually appealing compared to my Moto, I prefer the rubberized paint on the Moto, and I still find Moto's reception and call quality to be superior to LG, but that's just me. If you're an LG person, I guess you'll like it. A bit bland I think for a new phone...
