AT&T PDA Data plan

Dissolved

Nov 11, 2008, 5:40 PM
Does AT&T force the 30.00/month PDA data plan on you with the Fuze?

I have sprint, and was thinking of switching, but not if you're forced to buy the PDA plan and pay extra for text/pics.

Thanks

ATT won't allow you to get that with the Fuze, cuz the $15 plan qualifies only for regular phones, and PDA/Smartphone gets their own data plan (which is pricier).

You could get a regular phone with the $15 plan, and then buy an unlocked touch pro to use with it.

Buying the fuze unlocked would cost to much. In that case I will get the touch pro on sprint i guess.

OMFG......like $400+ FOR THAT PHONE UNLOCKED..... Rolling Eyes

You're surprised?????? If you buy if through ATT via a 2 year contract it's $299.99 (minus $50.00 mail in rebate) IF you get the PDA plan with it.....

You can, and I can atest to this...... purchase it outright for the OMFG $400+ if you have a 15.99 medianet plan (unlimited) and use it.....
The connection point is the same as for phones that don't come with a full web browser...... just don't go nuts and use a lot of data & you'll be ok....... I've done this with the 8125, 8525, and the tilt...... it works.... my highest date useage for a month was 15 MB's...... so if you're not overly "obvious" things can work.......

The extra $15.00 you'll pay over 2 years is more than bu...

um no at&T has gotten wise to what users like you have been doing so now the upgraded the system to know what kind of device you are using so while yes its has worked in the past it wont work in the very near future and in many cases the present.

You can get any phone without a data plan from AT&T (with exception of the iPhone). As long as you don't mind foregoing your rebate, which is what the data plan is tied to. For some phones, that might not be a good deal (some have a $100 rebate); for the Fuze however, the rebate on the data plan is only $50. You'll have already paid that back after two months, which is the minimum amount of time it would take for the rebate to get back to you. If you cancel the data plan before you get your rebate, they'll just cancel the rebate. Therefore, if you have no interest in a data plan, then just eat the $50 rebate because you'd have paid twice that anyway in the data plan, and just get the upgrade price.

Planning on doing the same, I also have a BlackBerry Bold.

But, in a few days, go over to your online account, and it will detect which phone you're using. Just a thought.

yeah the systems are getting better at att and can detect what device you are using and will eventually tell you you need to get the proper rate plan and charge you overages.

Except for unlocked phones bought off market. They can't detect those.

AT&T has since revamped their rebate process to where they have an instant and mail-in rebate. Both are based on the addition or presence of the PDA person data plan on your number. So, you CAN buy the phone w/o the data plan, but you will, in turn, have to make up the $200 difference.

no you are not forced to have the data feature how ever you will have to add unlimted data or unlimted text in order to recieve your rebate.

But WHICH unlimited data? Pretty much anyone who gets this phone will need unlimited data or there's no point to it. Can you walk out of the store with no data plan and add the $15 unlimited regular data plan through your online account or will it not even give you that option because it 'knows' which phone you have?

since its a windows moile phone you will need the pda personal package which is the $30 unlimited data plan. yes you can walk out of the store with out the data plan and no you cannot add the $15 data plan. the system will generate a message and tell you that you have the wrong data package and to avoid overages you should call cusmter care to add the correct data feature.

Okay. Gotcha. Seems like a canned "I work for AT&T" response, but I could be wrong about that.

Here's my thing. I can go into my online account management and CHANGE the phone that I have MYSELF. If I get a FUZE and change my phone to the V3xx, would that not bypass the phone/data plan compatibility issue? Confused
