To improve the battery life:

1 - don't set it to synch as emails arrive, set it to some interval, the synch process drains the battery. Try at least an hour, I set it to 4hrs. It only takes a few seconds for it do send/recieve email on demand if you want to look at it in between

2 - If you have good coverage at home and work, turn off wifi and live off of the EVDO cell phone internet connection

3 - The phone keeps its internet connection active all the time, which drains power. You need to set it so that it disconnects the connection when not in use. Download the file

I did all these things any the helped a lot. by the time I found them all I'd already ordered the extended battery, so now I'm really set. With these tweak I could consistently make it through a day without recharging.
