why do the tones only play a few seconds????

kso, i have had the pantech c740 since december 08........and of course i text all the time and i have ringtones that play when someone sends me a text...but when a text comes in...it only plays about 4 seconds of the song when the ringtone is at least 20 seconds long....is there a way to make the ringtone play longer when someone sends me a text??? it REALLY bothers me, since mostly all i do is text and i would like to hear more of the song.
