I do not want the vzw navigation...and I havent tried going to google.com and pulling up there maps.......but the 8330 curve has a featured icon with maps as well as a directions option on the home screen. This feature is great, it seems to work really well. Is this what everyone is talking about being disabled? if not than whats wrong with this instead of G Maps. Im just confused on what everyone is complaining about in regards to the gps/map features. Im new to the crackberry 8330 and just trying to figure it out. Thanks.

What you are using is Blackberry Maps that comes standard on Blackerrys now. What people are talking about on the Verizon Curve is Verizon's Navigation application which apparently either doesn't work on the curve or isn't preloaded one of the two.

BBmaps or Google Maps applications both try to access the onboard GPS chip BB has installed in it's newer phones(works like a charm in Sprint and the various GSM versions), however Verizon's Blackberry 8830 and the 8330 have the GPS receiver locked down so it only works with VZ Navigator (which costs $10/month). 👿

Actually on the Pearl if you download google maps it will work just fine with GPS. BB Maps will not connect to GPS. I'm guessing it is the same with the Curve.

My belief.

GPS is disabled and can only be used with VZ Navigator.

GoogleMaps is working by means of cell phone signal triangulation, not GPS. This is why gmaps give an estimate location, not an exact location.

If we can find a way to turn the GPS radio on, gmaps would be much more accurate.

You are absolutely correct in everything you just posted.
