Why Sprint is holding out.

May 3, 2008, 9:39 AM
Sprint has a huge inventory of phones that they cannot sell and by stalling with the release of the Curve and others they have been hoping to deplete inventory.

Sprint is also facing the loss of FCC airwaves in July 2008 which could destroy Sprint's ability to provide acceptable coverage.

Sprint also has an issue with it's identity and cannot decide if it should use the name Nextel or stick with Sprint.

Example: last year Nextel sponsored NASCAR by calling the series the Nextel Cup Series. This year they are calling it the Sprint Cup Series.

Customer service is located in Asia and even though the phone agents speak OK English the conversations do not trnslate well which causes issues and friction.

I am a Verizon customer mysel...

Verizon outsources too, and they're overrated, AGAIN! do your research there are call centers in Kansas, NC, NY, etc you're concerned with how Sprint will treat you stick with Verizon, did you hear that the get rid of whiney babies? Also if you only have the data plan why would you need to call customer service? If the Blackberry system is down call Blackberry buddy, not Sprint.

"Sprint also has an issue with it's identity and cannot decide if it should use the name Nextel or stick with Sprint."

Excuse me...

Be quiet, you don't know what you're talking about. It's not that serious to get mad because a phone isn't coming out when you want it to. Like I said before you're rushing this phone to come out but as soon as something goes wrong with it you'll be here talking about what a piece of junk this phone is. Have a little patience, and before you post anything like that do your research it won't hurt. By the way it has nothing to do with identity issues, it's something called name rights. Sprint couldn't just take over the name, if that happened then it would be all types of lawsuits over that name. I bet nex...

๐Ÿ˜ It always pays to read what others post slowly so you do not end up with egg on your face. FWI, the NASCAR series is named the Sprint Cup right now. Last year it was the Nextel Cup.

I am in no hurry for this phone just the plan as it ends May 31, 2008. However, without the phone there is no plan. Is this easier for you to comprehend?

Thanks for saying it for me since you're the one with egg on ur face. Like I said it was the Nextel cup last year because it was under name rights once again This year it's the Sprint because the naming rights contract was up.

You really don't make sense, Like I said in the previous post. When Nextel was seperate from Sprint they had contracts with NASCAR. They even had phones made after the racers. When Sprint took over they still had contracts under the Nextel rights, when that contract was up Sprint took over, I can see why you don't want to give in and realize that you DON'T know what you're talking about because I called you out in the midst of your unimformative rumor starting post. While I don't doubt your 15 years of following the NASCAR(doesn't help your example) I can understand you were venting but I've said this before, the Simply Everything Plan is not going anywhere, if that was the case than all of the plan are going to end. You're too wrapped up in ...

Hey MIZZSPRINT. I love people like you. You dont know when to shut up and sit down. Some times this place is better than comedy central. The stuff people post on here because Sprint is holding back on a phone that they haven't even launched yet. So This goes out to everyone that is waiting for the Curve to be released. It will be released when it is released and not a moment sooner. This is the problem with this country. It's this must have it now attitude and if you dont get it know you start to cry and get pissed off. You guys know what you sound like? A bunch of BABIES. Stop crying and just wait. Its a phone, its not a life or death thing thats being released here. We have a moto in my profession, It's hurry up and wait. I think you guys ...

Some of us are just not able to let go of misinformation. But with a screen name of MizzSprint I will consider your reluctance to eat crow. I have been told its impossible to have a conversation with a brick as it is thick and not capable of a reply.

I have the facts in writing and that is what hold water in this conversation.

MizzSprint You are WRONG. Naming rights were not up. Sprint and NASCAR executives agreed to change the name due to the renaming of Sprint. Sprint dropped the Nextel name except for official corporate correspondences. It is you who needs to get their facts straight and wipe the egg off of it. You are so biased it is not funny. You can't defend Sprint for dropping the ball. And yes they did. Spin it anyway you want to. Sprint SCREWED all the curve enthusiast. PERIOD. You can write you replies and sling mudd like you usually do. The fact remains that Sprint did this to it's loyal customer base....or should I say dwindling customer base.

You're n idiot. First of all check the first quarter results Sprint gained more customers not lost. Second of all if you are a curve enthusiast why would you not defend Sprint's decision to make Blackberry fix the problems with the phone. If you want the phone so freakin bad why would you not want it to work. Sprint has not dropped the ball, if anything they are taking it out of everyone else's hands and running with it. Sprint had it's problems, HAD it's problems, I think it's clear to everyone that the new CEO is taking care of those problems. It's fine to have problems with what a company has done in the past, but they have done nothing but shine in 2008, I mean look at their stock prices, look at their customer add's. People like ...

you have no idea what you are talking about! I mean honestly where do you come up with this garbage?!
Sprint's Curve delay has nothing to do with inventory and everything to do with making their applications such as Sprint T.V. and Sprint Navigations and others work flawlessly. They can't wait to release it, but they are not going to until it works the way they want it to.
Changing the name of the race has to do with Sprint slowly absorbing Nextel and it's network (muck like At&t did with Cingular).
And outsourcing is done by a lot of people, how do you think Sprint keeps it's prices for their plans so low. I hear a lot of people complain about this, but don't hear anyone complaining about Sprint having the cheapest data plans of any c...

Do you people really not understand that Sprint has different pass rates on their phone. Sprint and Verizon have different software on their devices, Sprint and Verizon have different quality expectations on their phones. Sprint has a pass rate of 95% specifically on their Curve, Verizon only required an 80%. Sprint is the only one that needs it to work with LIVE T.V., I mean if you really think that Sprint is just delaying the launch because they are lazy or messing up then you shouldn't be on these forums writing posts and responding to other idiots who are blaming Sprint for the delay. You obviously have no clue how the cell phone industry works, or how device launches work and don't realize that it is a Blackberry issue!!!! NOT A SPR...

I don't know about everyone else, but I'd rather wait for a phone that all the app's on it work rather than get a phone just cuz it's a cool phone and have to keep running back and forth to the store to have a technician look at it and work on it!

I realize there's only 3 reviews on the CDMA Curve so far, but I don't see anyone complaining about how the device "doesn't work" and there are 5 stars on all 3 reviews...not saying anything negative about Sprint, just that you may be wrong about how bad Verizon's version is. Time will tell.
...
BigKippa

May 4, 2008, 7:06 PM
Considering that those reviews were posted today I harldy think that would be sufficient time to test it out. I should say that I don't think that Verizon's Curve is going to be a "bad" phone at all. Blackberry's are usually good across the board, but with the features and data speeds that Sprint is offering on it, as well as requiring higher standards and lower failure rate in programs and applications for their version, it will be a superior phone. A less problematic phone with more features is exactly what will make it superior.

I'd love to know where you got your figures from for "pass rate" as you like to call it. But thats irrelevant...I really just wanted to address the idea that every company outsources. Verizon does have outsourced technicians, like every other cell provider...however Verizon has consistently been cutting down on their outsourced help, and Verizon has also stated on numerous occasions (and to this day followed through) that they will not outsource their customer service/tech support out of the country. The reality of it is, when you call into verizon 90% of the time you are hitting an actual verizon call center, not an outsourced tech...and those techs aren't located outside of the US and never will be.

I like to call it that because thats what it's called, just like I call it a blackberry becasue thats what it's called. I know this becasue I got it straight from Blackberry. I attended a Blackberry training hosted by Senior Blackbery Field Trainer Matt Casas. Feel free to quote me because I get tired of saying this. Verizon's pass rate is 80%!!!! Sprint's is 95%!!! Just because you don't like the answer does not mean that it isn't true. If you are gonna come at me please have some basis for your argument, get your facts straight, because mine are.
And one more thing find a post that i have done where I said "every" company outsources, I said "a lot" don't put words in my mouth. I apologize that I know more about this and your compani...

Well, pass rates aside, I regularly read the reviews of cell phone providers in JD Powers, Consumer Reports, etc., and Verizon consistently beats Sprint in almost all categories in most U.S. markets. I can't speak specifically for Sprint, I've never had them, and I understand they are trying to improve and hopefully they will or have, but I've also never had a viable reason to leave Verizon. So the phone will be out when it will be out, but I don't see the need to throw Verizon under the bus simply because Sprint hasn't put the phone out yet.

I am most certainly not throwing Verizon under the bus at all. I have never bad mouthed Verizon, I have personally had Verizon as a carrier and nothing but pleasant service. I am simply stating facts about the blackberry curve. These figures are correct and I've been hearing a lot of responses from Verizon people with a million arguments and excuses. I'm just tired of it, I did not makes these numbers up and they are what they are. People arguing with me about them is ridiculous and I find it funny. Sprint not releasing the phones are based on facts not opinions. I can honestly say that I have no issues with Verizon, just with the people who have been representing iton here and the b.s. that they type.
