I just bought 2 of the enV2 phones for my family account, and I see that the outside screen blanks out after a minute of non-use. I mean totally blanks out. This is different from any of the clamshell phones I've ever owned. So now when I'm at work and turn the bell all the way down (I have to do that in my office), if I get a call or text and miss it when it comes, because I'm away from my desk or just don't see the phone when it's ringing, when I get back to my desk I can't tell by glancing at the phone that there's a call or message waiting for me, unless I touch a button on the phone and bring the screen back to life. With your enV²'s flip open, press MENU/9/5/2/1/1. There you will have the following choices for Internal Backlighting: 7 Seconds, 15 Seconds, 30 Seconds, Always On , Always Off.

If you press MENU/9/5/2/1/2 you will have the following choices for External Backlighting: 7 Seconds, 15 Seconds, 30 Seconds.

Clearly, with backlighting always on, your battery will become depleted at an undesirable rate.

You also have the option of placing your enV² in the Vibrate Mode and carrying it in a holster or your pocket so that you can feel the alerts when the ringer is muted. With the flip closed, just press and hold the # key for two seconds to enter the Vibrate Mode. Same thing to exit the Vibrate Mode.
