iTunes on the Dare???

I'll admit it. I know nothing about itunes other than you can download them onto the iphone and ipod. I've never used it before. Limewire, FTW!!! 😛

I work for an indirect VZW location and since the release of the Dare i've been getting tons of questions about whether or not you can load songs from itunes onto the phone. I don't know what to tell my customers when this question comes up. Can someone clear this up for me, and if this can be done, are there other phones in VZW's lineup that can support itune songs?

This depends entirely on what your customers actually mean... if they mean songs purchased, ripped, or converted to iTunes then no. At least not the "native" iTunes format. iTunes itself will only sync to the iPod or iPhone... not a non-apple cell phone. Their music would have to be converted into MP3 format and placed within a folder on the MicroSD card (I believe it's MyMusic folder or something similar) in order to play them on the phone.

As of right now, this is the only way to get music onto the phone unless you purchase through VCast.

Verizon Music phones on sync with Windows Media player 10 and higher, and sync with Rhapsody(using your own music); I know this, because I tried it. Rhapsody to go only work with the LG Dare, LG Decoy, LG Chocolate 3 and a few others...

There is a program called switch that works with Leopard which will convert music into MP3s. It's nowhere as easy as syncing your Ipod, but if you take the time you can save yourself some money and use the Dare for both a phone and an MP3 player...

I prefer simply copying MP3s over to the memory card. It's every bit as easy as iTunes if not easier... simply drag and drop whatever music you want into the "my_music" folder. 🙂

Ringtones are just as easy... edit an MP3 (select a portion you want as a ringtone) or even convert any other audio file into an MP3, drop it in your "my_sounds" folder, then send it to yourself as a Picture Message. When you receive the message, simply "Save as Ringtone". 🙂

Until BitPim fully supports the VX9700, this is a fairly simple alternative.

Oh... and if you're wanting an application to convert or select portions of audio files to MP3... get Audacity. It's free, simple, light-weight, and works!

Thank you so much for this post, as I was playing around with how to get my mp3's to play as ringtones, all day yesterday. And I totally agree with the drag and drop, it is definitely an easy way to get your mp3s on your phone.
