LG Dare VX-9700
Dare I be Disappointed?
The phone's UI didn't seem to flow in a logical manner. The touchscreen was nice but had quite a few quirks. The text / email features does not have predictive text which I find useful when in a hurry. Even the 3.2mp camera was not a huge improvement over my Pearl 2mp camera.
I'm glad to see so many are pleased with this phone. I just wanted to add my experience to give balance to those lurking around here.
Go and get one and take it home with you. You have 30 days to take it back and owe nothing so what do you have to loose?
I too played with one at the store and walked away with a less than favorable impression. I am patiently waiting for the iPhone 3G and thought what the heck, try it out, get the iPhone, and have both to compare.
The only thing it will cost me is a 10% restocking fee on the iPhone because ATT are a bunch of gippos, so wish VZW had the iPhone!
After getting the Dare home and playing with it for a couple of days and getting used to it, I think the iPhone has some serious competition. Sure, the iPhone blows the Dare away in some catagories but as a "phone" with more than enough awesome features...

In summary, the phone is so so. Don't believe me, go buy one, play with it and I will bet that in about 2 months, many in this forum will be dumping the Dare.

A new phone in two months? Alot of people on this forum don't keep their phones that long. I, for one, change phones every month. There hasn't been a phone yet that can keep me interested for that long.
I say read all the reviews and try the phone out at a Verizon store... but definitely read as many reviews as you can first. Hype or not, a review is a review and someone may point something out that you never thought to look into before.
First... the iPhone is "finger" touch while the 9700 is "pressure" touch. Meaning a stylus will not work on the iPhone as it requires a small amount of heat detected off the user's finger. The 9700 is pressure touch so that you can use a stylus if needed. This makes the iPod far less susceptible to scratches on the touch surface.
Second... the iPhone runs off the full OSX kernel and now offers direct modification via the SDK. The 9700 runs a proprietary cellular phone operating system with far (and I mean FAR) less features. Simply put... the iPhone is a computer to wh...

I do need to make one correction though... I stated that iPhone is "finger" touch requiring a small amount of heat thus disabling the use of a stylus. This isn't exactly what I meant to say. What I meant (in a more technical sense) is that the iPhone and iPod Touch have electrostatic screens which sense the small amount of static produced by a human touch. Although in less technical terms one could combine the heat and static definition, I just wanted to be clear on that. 🙂

What I am not going to do is tell you which phone you should pick or which carrier you should choose because this is entirely subjective.
To start with, there is no such thing as a carrier specific tower regardless of what anyone might try to tell you. FCC regulations state that any tower built must be able to support all carriers that wish to use it. This makes sense by imagining what would happen if say (let's pick on Verizon a little) Verizon were to buy up all the good locations in any given city and set up their towers. This is a prelude to a monopoly. Granted carriers do not "have" to use a towe...

now you do have a point about people over hyping the dare but for heavens sake...this is the first time verizon has put out a phone that has excited people. compared to the other phones that verizon offers, i think the Dare is a great buy. its not the best phone in the world, but who would want that? you would have nothing to upgrade to in the future, lol.

This makes sense however I elected not to do it as my VZW contract is expired. I simply didn't want to renew for two years and go through all of the un-renew / return procedures.
I do enjoy my VZW Pearl and pleased witht eh VZW network. However, like many others I want to check out the new iphone.
I have had the Dare for a week now and am in love with it so far. It does have some drawbacks but overall a great phone.
I am picking up the new iPhone tomorrow. Going to have to get up early.....LOL
I will then have them both and try them out. Never had the iPhone but have played with one many times. They have it hands down when it comes to the touch screen..........simply amazing. I will see how the "rest" of the phone performs b4 i decide which to keep 🙂🙂
it was the same with the glyde and zooming , and also ending calls.
At least attempt to figure out the phone first before bashing it on features it actually has!
