IMAP / Email Accounts / Outlook

Hi, I'm considering the Dare (upgrading my Q), I'm stuck with Verizion Wireless due to my location (nothing else works here, period), anyway I have a couple questions that I'm hoping someone could answer for me:

1) Will the Dare support IMAP
2) Will the Dare support multiple email accounts (work account, gmail, yahoo, etc...). If so how many will it handle?
3) Will the Dare sync with Outlook (I just care about my calendar and contacts, I get all email via IMAP)
4) I see the Dare has a mapping application, does this work properly with the phones GPS? Is it any good?

OK, that's more than a couple of questions, but if any of you have the answers it would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

You can purchase the Mobile office kit for sync'ing your PC. or you can download the remoSync prog through Get It Now ($6/mo) for corp email access (Imap). Mobile Email ($5/mo) will allow you up to 10 pop3 acct. (you can funnel other accts into one acct to gain access to even more, just access the funnel acct) There is also the wireless Sync through Get It now.
VZnavigator rocks. I used it on vaca in orlando right before i started working for VZW and it is awesome, accurate, very quick, easy to use, and lots of customizability for whta kind of route you want to take. plus you'll never have to dial 411 with the local search function. $9.99/mo instead of a bundle up front for an in car GPS.

Wow so you're telling me that the only way to get IMAP is to purchase it on a monthly basis through Get It Now? The built in email application won't handle this? I'm very practical when it comes to phones and if it can't do the basics (and IMAP isn't only a basic it's a necessity for anyone who maintains multiple machines) then it's no good to me.

Sorry if I'm being a bit harsh, but I'm surprised.

Can anyone outside of VZW confirm this?

I would appreciate that, thanks. If it doesn't I'll just need to wait for the blackberry that is supposed to be coming out this year.

Consumer phones don't have any built in e-mail applications. But when you factor in that VCast is only $15 vs. a $30 e-mail and web pack, you're still ahead even if you have to add $6

Thanks for the reply, but I don't want to have to log into a system to get email, I would like to just have the email there on my device (makes it easier to use if I'm some place that doesn't have reception). I also don't trust Verizon to store and collect my email for me.

That was an important detail pramseycom! You should have mentioned it in your original post. 😛

The service that will pull your e-mail for you is Wireless Sync.

That service comes with the $30 email and web feature for smartphones and blackberries.

For a regular phone, it's an additional $19.99. The internet service for $15 is recommended so you're up to $35.

Sounds like you'll be better with a Smartphone/PDA/Blackberry in this case.

Thanks for the info 😁, I was hoping that with such a pretty phone they would also add some functionality outside of a pretty interface (I'm all into functionality). I'll keep hanging on to my old Q and hope that Verizon comes up with something better soon.

Thanks again I appreciate the intel!

The Dare is a featurephone. You defiantly need a smartphone. Blackberry is a good choice.

Excellent, y'all have been of great help, now I just need to hope that my 2+ year old Q lasts a bit longer (longest I've ever had a phone).

you can set up the Mobile email package ($5 a month with the vcAST $20 TOTAL) and you can have up to 10 email accts setup without having to login every time. Don't get me wrong, Bberries are great phones, but you can get that feature with this phone, for $20 vs $30-45 depending on the smartphone. Under the get it now, tools on the go, it should be preloaded, you just have to activate it, and set up the acts initially just like a PDA would. after that you open mobile email (set it as a shortcut for easy access) and the emails pop up to check. Wirelesssync is more for business/office server access usage

heres the link for mobile email infohttp://news.vzw.com/news/2007/07/pr2007-0 7-02.html
hope it helps

goatalope, I think the question isn't that I have to log in each time, but will the messages be delivered to the phone and is there an application on the phone that will check every 15 minutes or so for a new email. From what it sounds like the application on the phone is nothing more than a internet client that attaches to a server and reads the messages off of the server.

For the worst case scenario, I would want to be able to review messages that I recieved while in range of a tower, when I'm in a dead zone (and there are plenty of dead zones here in Washington DC).

I'm looking at the Blackberry Thunder now which is rumored to come out in September. If my current phone dies between here and there I'll just find another solution 🙂. Thanks all!

you're in the DC area? I run an authorized retailer in the Fairfax/Burke area in Northern VA. Where are the dead spots? I could report this to my account rep who will report this to the network team if you'd like.

Actually I'm in Northern Virginia, and as long as I stay out of Clifton I have great coverage (I wish other carriers had better coverage in the area, I don't mind Verizon, I just like competition).

In DC I've noticed that it's tough to get a connection, possibly due to too many people using too few towers. Also when I'm in a building I don't get connections all the time (that's my major issue, I don't expect my phone to work in buildings though).

ah yeah, one of my employees lives in Clifton and he knows firsthand that certain phones get better signal than others

a lot of buildings in DC don't get coverage but I suspect it's by design sometimes

i had an at&t phone and verizon wireless phone at the same time and i couldn't say one was better than the other except in the basement of the capitol where my verizon worked but my att didn't

oh yeah and also the metro, only verizon and sprint get signal

I had AT&T for years, but they couldn't get the network to work in my house, except for one corner of the house, and then I couldn't leave the corner, felt like I was begin punished every time I used my phone, maybe I was ;).

Wrong, IMAP is supported by Mobile Email. It's Microsoft Exchange servers that you need RemoSync for.
