Nice Phone But Network?
I'm currently a VZW customer with an expired contract.
The Dare doesn't impress me at all so I was about to switch to ATT and the iphone when I happened into the Sprint shop just to see what they have.
The instinct is really a nice phone. Has many of the features I enjoy using a few that are missing from the iphone. But i found that only a landscape keyboard (expect to dial) is awkward at times. That aside I'm pretty sold on this phone.
My problem is with the Sprint network. I live in the DFW metroplex and though the Sprint map coverage shows its pretty saturated I know people who use Sprint and have connection problems.
I'm not a huge fan of ATT and GSM and I have very few issues with VZW network (though VZW prices are way too ...

I have to disagree with your coverage statement in DFW area. While the covereage is spotty... it's sorta spotty for all carriers. Having to travel to dallas area many many times, my Sprint service is usually 99.9% up. The only time I have issues is when the plane lands...but I have stopped calling people the instant the plane touches down...in case it crashes and that would suck if I was telling my loved one that I have landed and then crashed and died.

ditto!! Although i'm not in the same area.....i've had about 5 phones through sprint (LG, Sanyo, Samsung, Nokia) and the instinct picks up the best of ALL!

Actually, you can make the keyboard either landscape or portrait mode. Furthermore, it has a freehand mode.

I don't live in the DFW area but I too am giving Sprint a try. I'm currently with AT&T and am also waiting for my Sprint Instinct to show up.
When I activate it I'll ask for a private number and forward calls from my AT&T phone to my new Sprint line. And luckily for me I'm using a windows smartphone so there's a little program that will forward all text messages received as well. But hey, if you've got to carry 2 phones for awhile at least the Pearl is pretty small.
Don't forget though unless you have a employee or company sponsored discount I think the cheapest plan for the Instinct is $70/month.

The Network is fine. One of the problems with the phone is that it has no setting for roaming for most people in the Midwest or rural areas this is a problem. Sprint has great coverage. But if you travel like most carriers not necessarily do you want to deal with your phone going in and out or service, dropping calls. Thus the roaming setting comes into play. Setting the phone on automatic doesn't work that well. I understand that you don't get messages as fast when things are on roaming and I understand thats why the phone is set up to not go just roaming because the Voice-mail is visual. But like the previous phone I had it really not that much of a delay to get a voice-mail a minute late versus me dropping my calls in a rural area. I'm mo...

OK, I bet a lot of us on here are sorta cell phone junkies..we love our gadgets - that certainly includes me.
I might buy and sell a lot of cell phones, but I typically would never jump ship.
Well, I just did! I was with at&t for a very long time..I tried VZW and cannot really complain about their service or coverage.
I never thought I would try Sprint, but I can honestly say - the service here in the Philadelphia area is absolutely incredible.
All providers lose coverage now and then, but even when I go to no bars with Sprint, I do not lose my call. That blew my mind - at&t would drop immediately.
