Samsung BlackJack II SGH-i617

I have two questions. #1. I bought my phone two days ago. I made two calls and both rang like 5 times then said call ended and didn't even go to the persons voice mail. I call att the next day they send updates to my phone and tell me to test it. first call i make it sounds like we are talking underwater and i hold it up to the phone and let the lady listen to it. she said try another number. so i call my work number it says its busy. which there is no way it could be. i was the only person here and no one on the phone. i call a second time and it rings. she says well the updates should help. so i hang up and my friend calls meback like a hour later and it does the same thing sounds like your underwater. question is, anyone else having this problem?

#2 i saved my songs and pictures to my memory card and stuck it in my new phone and it says the card is empty. i put it back in my old phone and it says they are on there. what am i doing wrong??
