Data Plan for BlackJack II

I'm looking to purchase the Samsung BlackJack II.

Prior to purchasing, I wanted to know if it is required to have a data plan for the phone, or could you just simply use the phone for regular use?

If a data plan is not purchased, what data features would I miss out on?

All replies are appreciated and thanks in advance! 🙂

Sure, you can have a smartphone without the data plan... but why? It's $1 a day and if you use it right it'll pay for itself. You pay more for your daily coffee. I cancelled my newspaper subscription, i use it to check prices while i'm shopping, i can find the cheapest gas prices, buy the frikkin plan, you'll love it. 🙂

the phone will function without the data plan but why get a smart phone without the data plan...to get the full benefits out of the phone you should put on the data package and you will get a nice discount on the phone when you go through at&t as well

I have a question. I'm assuming that the Data Plan is what enables one to get internet access. Is that assumtion correct? 🙂
