Phone Logs are deleted

dpak06

Just the other day all of my phone logs and text messages were deleted. I went to the Verizon store and they were able to solve the text message problem (i think?) but weren't able to help w/ the phone logs.

Anytime I make or receive it will not be stored in the call log. Does anyone have any advice???

Thanks,

D

Yeah i clear my memory once every couple weeks. I did a soft reset and it seems to have worked but I'll be more cautious if it happens again.

Thanks again for your help!

All,
There is a memory leak in the Pearl that is causing several different symptoms. An over abundance of SMS and MMS messages can cause this. Also downloading 3rd party applications, like VZNav, have also contributed to this. These two things are only because there is a memory leak so anything taking up memory will only make it happen quicker. Symptoms can be emails, call logs, SMS or MMS messages just being dumped automatically from the device.

Right now the only thing to do is for people to delete what they can from the device. Things like pictures can take up additional space. You can get an SD card to store these items so they do not take up space on the device. This apparently can happen when the device gets below 5mb of fr...

It's not a memory leak. It means your memory is low. The phone will free up any unnecessary memory to be more efficient. It's a smart phone....all you have to do is save the messages that you and it won't delete them. Or delete any applications that you don't need, freeing up more memory for your junk txt messages and phone log.

It is a memory leak. This phone holds less than any other phone I have ever had. I love this phone, except for this issue. I have 2 phones, and there is no way I could ever use this phone as my sole phone. It will say one missed call, but then there is nothing in the call log. I constantly clear out my phone. Many times multiple times in one day. This is a major problem with the Pearl, and one that needs to be fixed. I am probably going to get rid of it, just because of this problem.

I actually work for verizon and talked to a blackberry rep and they said the phone is acually designed to clear out memory when it is getting too full or when it gets on very low battery. So just keep texts deleted and you will not have that problem anymore.

I'm sorry, but I don't buy that answer. I have a Treo 700p and have never had a problem with it deleting messages or call logs, and they both have the same amount of free memory. I also have a bunch of apps on mine and am no where near running out of room.

I don't even have any text messages saved. And everything is saved on my card. And it still does it all the time.

If I do this suggestion of yours, it will clear up the log but will it mess up the phone?
What is this event log viewer any way? Just want to make sure that it does not mess up the phone before I do this.
Thanks please let me know.

Get a memory card. The camera fills up the memory on the phone and the device has to get memory from somewhere. Keep your media separate and it wilkl fix the problem.

The new Blackberry Core Application 4.3 is supposed to correct this. You can get it from the Verizon Wireless website.

Would you be able to post a link to the Blackberry Core Application 4.3? I'm having trouble locating it.

And i've got a memory card but it still happens. I'm almost used to it now but it would still be nice if I could avoid it.

I did this yesterday, unsure which v4.3 to select I chose the one updated in February. Went through the entire process, had to rerun setup wizard and all. Sure enough late last night as I was using it for work, it dumped everything again.

I don't have many pictures, and rarely MMS. I use SMS, BB Messenger, email, and the phone of course. Any other suggestions? I'm loosing my patience with it.

FYI.. Verizon told me to make sure I have all my data Synchronized and "Wipe" the device then reinstall the update. Once installed take out the battery for a minute then put it back in, this was it will recognize all updates.

Then you can synchronize all the data you backed up back to the Pearl.

I'll let you everyone know if this works. I also had Verizon extend my trial period incase this only works for a couple weeks or something crazy happens.

As a technician for Verizon I suppose I'll try to shed some light as to this problem. This is actually a known problem which we are working with BlackBerry to resolve. The most current software patch does not resolve the issue (only some media/sound issues). I too have this phone and am anxiously waiting for this software release.

I'm currently on lunch but when I get back to work I'll reply with the release notes for the patch. I haven't had any issue with sound nor have I seen any customers with it so I have yet to try it out for myself

I'm on my 3rd and last 8130 (vzw). All have had the memory leak issue, but thats a software bug and still exists with the .97 update.

The other thing I've noticed with the .97 update is a lot more dropped calls or calls that fail to place at all.

So what started as a great phone (the first few weeks) has turned into a junker. Having to babysit a phone (watching the free memory, pulling the battery every other day, etc) is not what I pay vzw for.

Looks like I'm going to be moving to a Curve. Shame, as the Pearl's form factor is perfect (about the size of a razr).
