Data, Text, Nav = $60 a month....yikes!

I dont think I can afford to get this damn phone! To get the consumer BB plan, plus unlm text, plus VZ Nav it looks like it will cost you more than $60 bucks a month--and thats not even including voice minutes!

I know verizon tiers data prices so that if you pay for more minutes your data is cheaper, which I also think is a little unfair. I use more text and emails nowadays so I can use fewer voice minutes.

I dunno, Im glad to see verizon is adjusting a lil bit to market pressures. But if they can bundle vcast/nav/tv....why cant they bundle email/text/nav and offer a more competitive overall price?

I just ordered this phone. The BB data plan was $29.95 ... and it does not support navigator according to the website. Plus I pay $10. a month for text and my normal calling plan.

Also, if you check the specs here on phonescoop you'll notice is doesn't have brew which is needed for navigator.

Not sure how you came up with $60. x month though.

I agree with "mobile..". I currently have the 8830 BB from vzw, and I have a 24.99 data plan which includes 10MB of data a month. You have to ask for this plan, because it is not shown on the vzw website. Honestly if you don't have your own business you don't need much more then that anyways. The BB web doesn't allow for flash media and any other web tools that would run on your data useage that high. Also, BB don't use VCast.

Sprint has a new blackberry plan specifically aimed for blackberry pearl users, for $30 you get the blackberry data plan without blackberry enterprise service but you do gain unlimited text messaging with the plan and Sprint Navigation as well.

30 for BB service
20 for Unlm Text
10 for Nav

And this phone was supposed to have vzw Nav on it. Atleast that was the rumor going around.

That is the Math I came up with too.
Yup this blows because I want all those thing on my BB too, or what's the point! I would consider it a lot more if it was for a Curve, but 60 for a Pearl with Sure type, no way! I picked up the 8350 just to ditch my gzone, hopefully the Curve will be out first quarter, than I'll reconsider at that point. Sup Chris 🙂

whats up man? Yeah, theres no way in hell im getting the pearl and paying an additional $60 to use it. You might as well get the voyager and pay half that for similar features and a pretty cool phone.

That damn curve better come out in early '08!!

How ya likin the 8350 so far gunny?

After carrying the gzone around for over a year, the 8350 is a welcome change. it's a good little phone, you know nothing special, the calls are solid like the 8300. I am still considering the voyager, will see. you know I really want that Curve and I'm willing to add 90 a month to my family plan to get it- 30x2 plus 15x2 for unlimited IN txt plus 1500...I can live without the nav. what do you think, will you still consider the Curve?

yeah I dont need Nav and I dont use more than 300 cell min a month so my bill would be around 90 bucks with my corporate discount for texts/BB service.'

I would prolly do it for the curve, but not for the pearl. The pearl is cool, but prolly a little too small for my fingers anyway.

Glad to hear you're liking the 8350, seems like a solid phone. Im starting to learn towards the voyager or the 755p. I wouldn't mind having the voyager, just to have a trendy phone for a little bit, lol

What do you think of that new Samsung F700--that phone seems pretty badass to!

I made 8 calls to VZW and got different answers until the last rep. If you change your plan to the nationwide plan you can get the 29.99 data plan if you aren't using a corporate email. That price is 44.99 and both are unlimited. Evidentally VZW has trained all their customer service reps so consistency is a problem. I ordered the pearl last night and was surprised that fedex delivery was for today.

Is there an honest VZW rep out there that can answer this question? I was told today that it was not possible to add a new 8130 onto my family share plan (to make 5 lines total) and have the data plan on that line alone. Something about it "screwing up the computers" was the explanation. I didn't push it because I figure I'll get to a store soon enough to play with the 8130 first to see how I like suretype. I don't write superlong emails back on my work enterprise server so I'm hoping it will do. I'm sick of carrying the brick (7250) and the phone stinks. I would sure love to share the family minutes for an extra $10/month. So what's the story?

I think what the rep you spoke to will learn is Verizon is switching people over to the National Access plan. Ya' know, the new pay as you downlownload per Mb (yikes, we get it again). i purchased the Pearl yesterday and had a similar issue. In order for the rep to "push" the order through the system, she had to switch my family share plan over to the National Access type of plan.

Unfortantly both the reps that you talked to were wrong, well atleast the first one.

You can just have one phone on a family share plan with Unlimited data for 29.99. So essentially you will be paying 40 extra a month for your BB (10 for the new line and 30 for the data)

As far as the VZW making you switch to national plan for the new Pearl that is wrong as well. Now if the rep said thats only way the system would take it, that might be (system problems can happen) But unless you are starting a brand new single line or changing your minutes you DO NOT have to go the Nationwide plan.

Thanks for the input. I went back to the store today. The manager went in the back and got a new 8130 to show it to me since they just got the shipment in. I got to play with it for a few minutes. I think I can get used to sure-type no problem! She said I can't get it until Thursday the 8th however. She confirmed again that I can move my corporate phone number over to my family share plan along with the data plan. The company number just happens to be up for the NE2, but it's a $39/mo plan so I'll have to pay $199 after the $50 MIR. No big deal to me. I faxed in the assumption of liability form this afternoon so hopefully on Thursday I can go in and get it done with little fanfare. They will commmit me to a new 2 yr contract, fine. ...
