Ringtones for free

ihateeverything

I have no problem getting mp3s onto my phone, nor hacking the ez tip calc for pong, whatevers that worth..but I can't seem to figure out how to acquire ringtones for free. I figured maybe it had something to do with editing mp3 files, but I can't figure out what to do with them afterwards. I would really appreciate some help as to attaining ringtones for free.

Create an mp3 of 30 seconds or less using a program like audacity to cut and edit if necessary. Copy it to your phone's my sounds using any of a number of different methods. Text it to yourself. When you receive the message, select save as ringtone.

USB or bluetooth. Load the USB drivers from the CD. When the phone is connected, it should show up in my computer, and one of the folders will be my sounds. Drag and drop.

Oh no **** I must not have looked for it...last time I hooked it up to my comp I just used the vcast music manager program that came with it. So it opens up like a normal hard drive/folder in my comp you say? Good deal, good deal. Another 20 minutes and I can leave this place and find out. Yay for clocking out.

I wrote the thread below in 2004, it still works and applies. Newest info though, is that a site called mobile17.com will allow you to upload a full song and will splice it wherever you want for any specified amount of time. It is totally free. Tell them what exact second you want to start the ringtone and what second to end it. Have it emailed to yourself or sent directly to the phone. IT WORKS....its great because you dont need to buy any software or download anything fro the net. After you follow the directions bellow and you have a sound file or a song on your computer just follow the instructions on the site and enjoy your new ringers.

I use Xingtone and there seems to be a 250kb limit on tones you can send yourself via email .. now I have sent myself tones larger than 250KB but it was a txt sound file from my AT&T phone .. apparently there is a larger limit for txt from a phone as opposed to ones coming from a Email

can anyone else confirm this?
...
brucefulton

Jan 14, 2008, 8:39 PM
I don't know exactly what the limit is, but 250-300kb is the usual reported range. I have used audacity to lower the bitrate of clips to keep them around 25 seconds and 100-150kb. Also, there is no reason for a ringtone to be longer than 30 seconds, since that's when it goes to voicemail. You might be able to transfer larger files to the phone with bitpim using USB or bluetooth. There isn't a limit on audio files on the SD card or in vcast (e.g. in My Music) as far as I know; just on what you can text as a ringtone.

One more time with feeling. Emailing is not the way you go about this, and it has been covered in several previous threads. The way to do it is to transfer the audio file to your phone's "my sounds" directory using either the included usb cable or bluetooth. Then, using get it now, my sounds (on the card or internal memory) text the file to yourself. When you open up and listen to the text message, select the option to save as ringtone. Suggest you all use the search function to see what has already been explained in detail several times.

One person who can't figure out how to properly encode the mp3 doesn't know how to send themselves a free ringtone so no one else does? Screw your other threads you never specify them. WHAT OTHER THREADS I'm sick of you claiming other threads exist where you thouroughly explain this. All you do is give some bs story about ringtones coming up on your phone in my music..somehow..then you txt yourself the ringtone? Wtf kind of retarded **** is that why would you send yourself something already on your phone. I'll tell you the kind of retarded **** it is it's stupid bullshit. You receive a free ring tone by emailing it to your number which comes to your phone as a txt msg, NOT AN EMAIL. STFU

You can not use the usb cable to transfer anything other than mp3 files, which will not save as ringtones.

The phone doesnt show up in mycomputer, there is no way to transfer anything without the v cast music program which only transfers mp3s not allowing ringtone functionality. Emailing the ringtone to yourself, or having a service do it for you, is the only way I've found to get them free and it works 100% every time for me.

Well, you're wrong about transferring things to the phone using the USB cable. You can also use bluetooth. The vcast functions or software are not part of this conversation and have nothing to do with transferring files to folders on the phone or saving mp3's for use as ringtones. If you will go back and read previous threads fully, you'll see that what I've described is simple and easy and confirmed by a number of other users.

We're not discussing previous threads. We're discussing this thread. I'm not going to search through 50 pages of threads for a mysterious thread for which you have no name. Don't use your faulty logic on me it belittles me. I am not wrong about the usb cable. It only lets you transfer things from v cast music manager, it does not open up the phone on the computer. You can not transfer ring tones using the cable. You are full of **** the only method is emailing the tone to your phone or having a www site email it to you, both of which come out as a txt msg on your phone, stop using faulty logic and ridiculous bs about other threads that arent specified.

Check your manual, genius, tools settings usb mass storage device. Once you put it in mass storage mode, it will appear as a removable drive in my computer and you can drag and drop files into those folders that verizon permits access to. One of which is not ringtones. Because usb mass storage mode doesn't expose that folder. So if you transfer a song from your computer to my sounds using the cable, you can go to get it now, music and sounds, my sounds, select the tune you transferred, text it to yourself, and save as ringtone when you receive it. It would really help if you would stop posting information that is just plain wrong. If you can't figure it out or read the manual, that's not anyone's fault but yours. I would accept an apology, bu...

4. select tools, and scroll down to USB Mass Storage
5. go to "My Computer" and select the storage device (the voyager)
